Plagiarism warning

Please don't plagiarize!

I've recently noticed so many bloggers plagiarizing, which means they were copying and pasting things from the Internet, such as photos, text or articles, poems or song lyrics, etc. I know most of the time they were doing that accidentally - they may not have been doing that intentionally. They may not have known what is plagiarism or may have been totally unaware what they were doing was illegal.

Why is the plagiarism taken so seriously here? Big deal? You should know the Internet is not an open domain, which means you are not allowed to copy anything from the Internet without a proper citation. If we are found copying things from the Internet without proper citations, we'll be punished and even our site MyEC will be "flagged". That will be such a serious consequence. So, if the mod or admin find you're coping things or plagiarizing, your blog will be flagged or deleted. Please let us know the photos are taken by yourself, not copied from the Web, when you're trying to include any photos or pictures on your blog.  Be careful, sometimes we even flag or delete a blog just because the blog is too good or polished to be written by her/him.

Hope you can get it!

  • Once more thank you so much, Tara!!! Will look up websites like this or wil use that one Flickr. M glad to know there is always solution ;)
  • @Luzzi No problem! I'm so glad you asked. By the way, there are some great sites that you can use for free! You just have to provide proper credit to the photographer.

    Check out this tutorial about how to attribute creative commons photographs using flickr.

    Be sure to check out ELTPics, too! (Image attribution notes)

  • Ohhh, Tara, I didn't know that, thanx for explanation.
  • @Luzzi I subscribe to (pay for the right to use) a site that allows me to use pictures on EnglishClub pages. Great question!

  • None serious attitude from your part on very serious issue has really disappointed me a lot! :(
    there are some suggestions I wish to put forward here. Anyway, thank for the discussion!
  • hmmm Smith, is  your blog about sensitive/serious topics or plagiarism ? Make it clear. They both are two different topics. So, don't mix them here.

    Come to the point.

    1) What is the conclusion of this discussion?

    2) How to curb plagiarism, by force or with proof? :)

    Let's discuss as it is not a sensitive topic :)
  • @arif

    Yes, plagiarism can be such a serious problem. I'm glad so many members joined in the discussion and we all helped make it clear. Serious or sensitive topics aren't a taboo here on MyEC, but we'd better know such topics could cause an intense argument. I did publish some blogs on some serious issues just to remind us that it's not a good idea to see so many such blogs (on serious issues).

  • @Smith,
    Thank for your kind response!
    The purpose of taking part in this discussion or leaving my opinion was to make you aware about some shortcomings of the blog you wrote on very serious issue i.e. plagiarism and I am glad to know that you, at least, confessed it. That's great, I really appreciate it. :)

    Take your full time, I will look forward to your kind response :)

    Note: Innocent until proven guilty.

  • Thank you, Expector.

    Here is an explanation in easy English for those who aren't clear. What is Plagiarism? Let me know if you have any questions.

    Cheers,

    Tara

  • @Dimas

    Thanks for being the first to respond. I'm glad you've always tried to make it clear that you've actually written the blog or poem - I appreciate it. Keep up your great work here.

    @noasl

    I'm sure you've already noticed the situation here, since you're an active member and have always tried to be the first to leave a comment on the blogs. Please let me know when you find a photo or picture or text coped from the Internet without any proper citation. There's no toleration to plagiarism.

    @Rajesh

    Thanks for the comments. I would like to read your blog about plagiarism. It's unacceptable for anyone here to keep plagiarizing - we need to let them know they've been plagiarizing just in case they are totally unware what they are doing is against the rules here on MyEC (including the forum section you mentioned). Any violator is subject to being banned from joining this club.

    @arif

    Yes, I should have included some examples. It's safe to use only the photos or pictures you took or text you actually wrote. Sometimes you may read a fun article and want to share it with us, then you should let us know the article is not written by you, and you also need to credit the author at the same time. I'll read the two blogs and will let you know if they are OK.

    @Seeker

    You're welcome!

    @Jesson

    Thanks for cooperation!

    @Luzzi

    Good questions! Yes, it's unfair and totally unacceptable for any member who plagiarized was chosen as a star member here. Please try to help bring it to the mod's or admin's attention whenever you find someone is plagiarizing. You are allowed to use pictures from the Web as long as you make it clear that you coped the pictures and credited the photographer. As for the avatars (profile pictures), you're encouraged to use photos take by you.

    @Stranger

    I assume you were unware you were plagiarizing - stop doing that.
