  • Thanks Jasmine. Ranup Lampuan derived from the word " ranup" Aceh Language means betel plant and "puan" means tray. When we have a special guest or VIP visitor we welcome them by this traditional dance. we perform this dance in front of them. and the personnel of the dance carry a tray with ranup (a quid us. consisting of betel leaf, areca nut, and lime (often with other ingredients, e.g. gambier, tobacco, etc.). and then the dancer leader will bring it around so that the guests can put the ranup. Then the guest should chew it. and often the guest give the dancer some tips (of money). The ranup lamouan dance is to respect the guests. Sorry if my explanation was ambiguous.
