Photo Challenge: Say NO to Paper Coffee Cups

Hello MyEC members! Our photo challenge this time is related to environmental problems. The topic was inspired by one of Josef's pictures, Say NO to plastic bags. https://www.myenglishclub.com/photo/say-no-to-plastic-bags?context=userAs we all know plastic products have brought us great convenience, but also caused huge problems and harm to the environment. I wonder if the government in your country imposed any bans on using plastic bags, materials, etc, and if there are any ways or habits that could help to reduce the consumption of plastic products in your daily life. Other issue related to environment can be included as well. Let's try it and make a bit effort to love our earth. How to participate:- Think of what is the main subject you want to say NO.- Upload a photo of your method which is eco-friendly or could help cut down on pollution or wastage. If you say NO to emission of carbon dioxide, for example, what would you do? In this case, if your answer to it is to buy local produce, you may photo local vegetables. If you say NO to disposable cutlery when eating outside, your photo might be a portable cutlery set, etc. Remind that the photo you will take is not to focus on taking any slogans as Josef's photo, but the way, which is like a substitute solution, you would do against the problem.- Use the title "Say NO to _______" , and share your idea of why you take this way to match the topic you say NO.- In case you yourself don't have any idea of this, but your local government have done something eco-friendly just like Eva's post. You can also talk about it. :)- Each photo must be your own photo. Please do not upload copied photos from the Internet. These will NOT be approved. My example photo:In order not to increase unnecessary coffee cups wastage, I usually bring a thermos and bag with me to buy coffee from convenience stores. These stores also encourage customers to buy coffee with some discounts if they use their own cups. I felt guilty sometimes if I bought without using my thermos.

  • @Kal  My pleasure. Your banana leaves and cloth bag can actually help a lot for the problem, only nowadays it seems that people are busy and have no time to prepare these stuffs. Fast, convenient and easy to get are probably the reasons why plastic bags are still used widely. Thanks for sharing your excellent work. :)

@Eva  Really? Sure, I can't wait to find the answer!  Thank you. :)

  • Hello Grace,

Oooh, is that a challenge? Anyway virtual handshake, challenge is accepted. I posted a video with this title; My Thermo Cup Experiment - The video is waiting for approval, please when you have time, watch it through and you will get your answer :))

Thank you very much for your kind words, it means a lot to me. I try my best within my capabilities to participate, otherwise I just support with my comments. I know how much it can mean.

Hats off for you too ღ

  • Sweet Grace,

Nice challenge and your effort so great. "Eco friendly" is one of my most loving words.I love to link with the global friends like you.

    Many many thanks!

  • @Mary  I am glad to have your positive feedback! Hope to see more members joining in the action. Thank you. :)

@Nanny  :P  Probably it's time I need to check my nearsighted diopters. haa..  Have a nice day. :)

  • @Grace, awesome challenge!! (as always) :))  I love your suggestion to use the photo challenge to spread this kind of messages. Thanks a lot! :)

  • @Nanny  Yes, I agree with you. Actions always speak louder than words.  Ohh...what a cool mug you have! The cartoon seems not happy to be squeezed. So interesting! haa.. Thank you for echoing this topic with "Hot my day". :D   Special thanks to you that this challenge was also inspired by your cloth bags shared in the comment of Josef's photo. If most of people could try to bring their bags to buy things, it would help lower many problems.

  • @Eva  You are one of great participants in challenges. Take my hat off to you! :)  Here you made a point that it's exactly a collective responsibility even though it might be considered a cliche. Still, I do hope making each of our small action/habit a bit different might make our environment different, as you said.

Eva, if you really tried to ask them to put coffee in your thermos someday, please share with us how they react to it. I am very curious. :D

    This is Eva's contribution.

  • Grace,

    What an interesting photo challenge.

Yes, it is a collective responsibility to take care of our Mother Nature, small action oftentimes makes the biggest differences.

Hmm, I was wondering how would the staff at the coffee shop react, if I brought along a thermo and said I want my coffee in that :)) this is not something integrated here, yet.

I find it absolutely amazing, that you have such kind of choice and opportunity there.

I posted my contribution to the challenge, but I am a little uncertain whether I even interpreted this in the correct way...,

Well, I will wait and see :)

  • @Onee   thank you for the explanation to Roman. I will add more explanation to the main body later. :)  Exactly, it is still very hard to live without any plastic stuffs, only we can do is to try lowering the usage of plastic as possible as we can.  ahh.. once we all say NO to the Internet... what would we do? what our world would be? It's an interesting topic we can think of, or maybe an idea that could be our future challenge. :)  Can't wait to see your idea and our members' via the challenge. Thank you.

  • @Roman   My description above may be not clear enough. Onee's comment below helped to describe what I wanted to try for the challenge. Yes, come up with a substitute way to solve the problem. If we hope to reduce (say NO to) wastage of product bags, we could bring our own bag to buy stuffs, something like this. :)

You pointed out a critical issue of package. It seems that there are many things bought from the internet or shops might be packed too much. How these products were packed might not what we can control, yet we could choose what we want to buy.

@Ella  Thanks for the comment. Join us if you have something good to share for reducing any wastage. :)
