I could say it's magic ;) but some of them did burn a little.
The candles are pretty far from the edges unless they fall over. The paper got a little wet from the snow and maybe it has a chemical to prevent fire on it also. You might a notice a burned hole near the bottom of the first candle. That is why I took the photo of it.

why do these papers avoid from catching fire?
