Blue Cornflower

Cornflower's beauty have been admired in Europe probably already from the beginning of the time.. For it's nice blue color. It's a national Flower of Estonia and also one of Germans national flower. Some political parties have also used it as their symbol in Estonia, Sweden and Finland. It's actually a weed.. But these days also cultivated as for decorative flower. This cornflower on photo was growing inside of the field of rapeseed. There was a lot of them. The field was looking blueish. But there would probably have been even more, if people would not pick them. What a pity. I really would have liked to see them untouched.Silly people. They were trampling on rape seed, to pick those flowers. I suppose they were picking them to sell in town's market. Would that money, that they earn by selling flowers. Cover the damage they do for field?Last year there was wheat growing on this same field. Then they did it too. I think last year there was even more cornflowers. This year there was less people in that field. I suppose it's also more difficult to walk in rapeseed field to pick them, than in wheat field.PS. No. I did not trample in that field.. I took the photo from the edge of field.. or maybe only very little stepped into it a few steps to get better photo.. But really only so little :P^_^

  • beautiful shot...
  • You don't need one, feialison. because You're self a nice flower. ;)
  • yes I see :) what you mean is nice, but I still don't like it, the sky makes a good feeling yet the solitary one limits the space, I hate the limitation ~.~

somtimes symmetry and perpect make me feel uncomfortable, then I do something to break them ;)) hey hey don't say that you've picked some petals of that flower for your purpose :P

  • Thank you everyone.

I was glad to see everyone's comments. ^_^

PS. Missing. You're right. This photo might be not the greatest. But I still like it. I selected this photo of single cornflower, because of the asymmetry of that cornflower. Every cornflower is beautiful and unique, but the asymmetry of this one makes it special. It's special that it's not perfect. The flower sellers of cut flowers would leave it. Since in their eye it's not perfect.. It doesn't have enough tight blossom for them. I also like that there's more sky in background. I always try to take photos so that there would be some more sky. In this photo the asymmetry of the blossom and the cloudy gry sky make one compound of this photo. The other compound is the lively blue color and strong life force of the cornflower.. I think. So it's quite contrasting..

The other photo I posted because I liked also that one, but the cornflower in foreground is blurry and there's too few sky. Sky is important for me.

Also these photos are nice. But well.. I had to make my selection.. ^_^

  • Thank you for the fast comment, Nadiyah. Actually this flower have also used to make blue paint too. At least, I believe, that it was used do color clothing..

And it is also used for herbal medicine also..

  • Great to knowing this flower, Hardi ..! I love this blue color, beautiful. Your explanation is quite convincing. each flower provides a symbol. thanks!
