Sanggee

My name is Jumaida Novita Gultom, my parents gave me the name.  Jumaida took from the Islamic month Jumadilakhir, and Novita took from November because I was born on November. And the last Gultom is my family name. But my grandmother would not call me with that name. Since I was born my grandmother called me with Sanggee, I don’t know what the meaning is but she always calls me with this name. When anybody asked, “who’s this child name?” She will answer,”Her name is Sanggee”. All my relatives call me Sanggee even my parents and my siblings called me so.

When I was in the first grade, I was misunderstanding about my own name. I don’t even know that my name is Jumaida Novita Gultom not Sanggee. When my home teachers call the roll the students I was crying out loud because she did not call my name but all the other students. My home room teacher didn’t why I was crying so out lout. She got confused when I tell her that my name is Sanggee, because she couldn’t find the name on the name list.

As time goes on I finally understand that Sanggee is just a nick name, my real name is Jumaida Novita Gultom. When I am in the formal situation I will introduce myself as Jumaida Novita Gultom and when I am with my friends they will call me with Sanggee. And even some of my friends do not know that my real name is Jumaida Novita Gultom.

I always thought that this is how my grandmother expresses her love to me by giving me the name Sanggee. You can call me with Sanggee or Jumaida Novita Gultom. I love both of my names.

My Boarding House Sarmin 23

My boarding house is an ordinary boarding house with many rooms and many people inside. When the first time I arrived in my boarding house with my sister I was really surprise because some of my home stay friends were sitting around the corridor and all of them scream: “oleh - oleh, oleh - oleh …” to me and my sister. At that time, the thing that cross in my mind was, how come that so many people who have different background, personality and culture could stay together in one same home? I never thought that I will live in this kind of home before. This the first time for me live saparated with my family. I was thought in my mind, could I live in this home like what they have done? I don’t know.

Just like the other boarding house, when morning come all the people will be stand in line for the restroom. Here, in my boarding house we have our own stand in line style, when somebody inside the restroom you can yell at her like: “hey, who’s inside?” and then somebody inside will answer: “me” then you say: “call me after you, ok." This is how we make our stand in line every single morning.

At the time goes by, I slowly could adapted with all the personnel. When the night come we always gathering at one room, eat to gather and sharing all the things that what we have done or what happening at the day and all the people will give their own opinion about that thing by turns. For whatever what you sharing all the people will give good respond on it even sometimes they will make some joke on it too. At our boarding house we have same interest. We are very interesting in Korean and Japanese drama. We even learn the languages by ourself. Everytime we go to the book store we always buy Japanese language book. When one of us has a new DVD Korean or Japanese drama, we could stay awake all night long just to watch the drama until the end and sometimes some of us choose to be absent for the college on the next day.

I never thought that I will live with somebody outside my family but here in my boarding house I feel really comfortable, we are just like a big family even we come from a different background. I meet many great people here in my boarding house. I feel that I really lucky have such a great boarding house's friend like them. Even, if you come to my boarding house you will see it’s not as great as what you could imagine. Who would have thought that here in my boarding house has such great person inside like Marissa noriti, she is a girl who has many activities in GNO, Moyang kasih dewi merdeka, a redactor for a college journalist, Wahyuni, a girl that has many social activities, she has at least once a month social service, Lilis Handayani was the best student on her ledger even she really freak out about Japanese, Halimah is one of the best doctor I ever met and all my great boarding house's friends. Our boarding house just like a ramshackle house but we love it so much.

Now some of my friends already moved. Sometimes I feel that I really miss all of them. But where ever we go we will always connected each other because we are one big family Sarmin 23 always.
