Teachers' Day

Teacher's Day

Teachers are a significant part of everyone's life. They show us the right path and groom us to become a better citizen and a better person. They teach us to face the most difficult challenges of life and get through them, easily. Teacher's Day is celebrated to pay tribute to teachers, Who have dedicated a considerable part of their life to impart moral and academic knowledge to their students. We celebrate this day in many different ways.

When teacher's day is celebrated in you country ?

At me in India teacher's day is celebrated on 5th of September.

How teacher's day started in your country?

Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan who was a great teacher. He also became the first Vice-President and second Presidents of India. And when some of his stu dents and friends approached him and requested him to allow them to celebrate his birthday, he said, "instead of celebrating my birthday separately, it would be my proud privilege, if September 5th is observed as Teacher's day". From then onwards, the 5th of September has been observed as Teachers Day, in India.

How do you celebrate it?

In India
It is now one of the occasions that is looked forward by the teachers and students alike as on this occasion its not only when teachers are praised but also around many schools students dress up as a representation of their teachers and take various lectures that are assigned to the teachers they represent. As the day passes the students perform the regular activities that are performed by the teacher's. On this day students realize what it means to be a teacher and what it means to control the future of several students in their classes and also teachers are reminded what it felt like when they were the students. Cakes are also cut on this day, students give gifts to the teachers and on this fashionable world many where students' conduct parties like dancing, singing and so on.

Hello my dear EC friends I hope I could know about your countries too So, kindly if you have time to write some words on this great day please don't forget to share.

If you could, better write in this discussion.

MyEC Member: Hala J.M
Country: Syrian Arab Republic
Occupation: English Teacher
Spotlight Topic: Being an English teacher

Rajesh: How long have you been teaching English?  And how do you feel when you see yourself as an English teacher?

Hala J.M: I have been an English teacher for seven years. I teach in a high school "secondary""15-18"years old students. It's my choice to study English literature ,and to be a teacher.Although to become a teacher is not easy:it means to stand in front of nearly 30-35 students in each class and explain to them,it's really a hard work ,but I enjoy it a lot.I feel that it's a big responsibility and I have to do all my best.

Rajesh: How do you feel when you are in your classroom? And what do you like most to teach in English?

Hala J.M:

Well I feel that I'm in another world ,forgetting everything outside the classroom and only enjoy speaking, explaining and acting.."which is very important to teach a language".

I sometimes forget the time until the students remind me .

I like teaching all the skills in English, you know that teaching a language means to teach many different topics in one book: history, technology, science, stories ,poems....

within the new grammatical rules in each lesson. So these comprehensive topics make the class active if we can create different ways of teaching to each topic.

Rajesh: Tell me something about the system of English learning in your town/country? If you get a chance to make some changes in the system of English learning, what change would you like to make first?

Hala J.M: There are three levels :elementary, intermediate and secondary. Two books each year :Student's book-Activity book.

The real problem in teaching English is how can we help the students to overcome the difficulties of speaking English in the class? They like reading the lesson, but they hesitate and even shock when I ask them to discuss ideas or try to speak...So if I have the chance to make some changes, I'll concentrate  in  developing the speaking skill in the class and to give more time to each student to practice speaking.

Rajesh: What is your opinion regarding online English learning system? Do you have any message to the learners who want to learn ESL online or themselves?

Hala J.M: I think Online English learning is so helpful not only for the learners but for the teachers too to remain update to what's new in teaching and to develop the communicative skills .

If the learner can apply the four skills in learning English:-listening-speaking-reading-writing.So it will be more useful.

Rajesh: I don't know about your country but here in my country people call teachers as the nation builders and students as the future of the nation. So, as being a special citizen as a teacher in the world. What is your message to the teachers, to the students and all the people around the world  looking after the going situation in the world?

Hala J.M: My advice to the learners of English is to practice .In language study it is only practice that makes perfect. So 30 minutes a day is better than hours in a week or a month.Try to find some moments everyday to listen and read English..

To the teachers I can say: the key to professional teaching is being able to see both sides at the same time, this means thinking and acting as a teacher but seeing things from a student's viewpoint, and to help the students help themselves by guiding them to the perfect way of getting the information and apply it.

I hope safety and peace to all the people around the world.

Hala J.M: Thank you very much my dear friend Rajesh for giving me this chance to say these words,I really appreciate it alot.I wish you success and happiness ,God Protects you and brings you long happy life.

Rajesh: Thank you a bunch to you my dear teacher Hala J.M for giving your golden time for these question. I really very very appreciate on EC being with great English teacher like you.

My dear teacher Hala J.M : wish you great health, happiness and prosperity in your whole life.

Dear teacher Tara : You are always more than thank you, now a special thanks to you for repeating this great and interesting topic.

The Thread Of Love: Rakhi

How much do you know about Indian festival?

Raksha Bandhan

Today is Raksha Bandhan.

Relationships are the essence of any festivity and it holds true for any Indian festival. Each festival brings family together. Raksha Bandhan is a celebration of one such relation, it is a festival of Sister and Brother. On this day siblings pray for each others' well being and wish for each others' happiness and goodwill.

'Raksha Bandhan' means 'a bond of protection'. On this day, brothers make a promise to their sisters to protect them from all troubles and the sisters pray to God to protect their brother from all evil. The festival celebrated on the "Shravan Purnima" (full moon) which generally comes in the month of August. On this day Sisters tie the silk thread called Rakhi on their brother's wrist and pray for their well being and brothers promise to take care of their sisters.

"True friendship is like sound health; the value of it is seldom known until it be lost" ~ Charles Caleb Colton.

We celebrate Friendship Day because in real life we always not say something special or  appreciate them for being there with us...also we not realize how important to say her/him I love you because he/she is part of our life...so thank you to the person who started this day where we can go and appreciate our friends by giving them a gift or spending some great time together and talk about our relationship ???

When I was in school, I used to celebrate this special day with my best friends,We used to exchange gifts, cards, and Friendship Band, We used to share our thoughts to each others. We are still best friends but not staying in the same place but we meet on special occasion, but we still miss that day when we used to stay together. Now we are in different-different places for our study and we communicate each other by Phone/Internet. "I hope our friendship will be forever"

Hello my dear EC friends,

Here in EC we are posting our voice from audioboo.fm or vocaroo.com

As I find posting our voice from vocaroo.com is easier than audioboo.fm but voice quality is very-very poor in vocaroo. I have tried to hear others voice from vacaroo but most of the times I can not hear voice clearly, sometimes there are many background noise and some times can not hear at all. In "Audio Speaking Group" I can not hear voice from most of the members, I don't know, it's my side problem or vocaroo problem? But in audioboo.fm I haven't found any voice problem and voice quality is very clear. So, why not we share our voice from audioboo.fm?

Here, this is my try for those, who are unknown from audioboo.fm

Here is an example of recorded voice on audioboo.fm:-

This is the video which will let you know, how to share your own.

If you have problem in recording your voice same as mine, you can check these

OR

Better if you find any problem in recording from your mic, you record your voice from your default system's tool and upload it.

You can try out this tool for recording your voice

Problems which I have faced while recording my voice in windows system.
