Haft peykar (seven Beauties)

Haft Peykar (Seven Beauties)

(I’d like to thank dear friend Mahgol for her helps and guides).

First of all it needs to mention the days of week and their colors. I’m not supposed to describe the *nomenclature because I didn’t search them.

Saturday is Black. The mixture of colors but none of them can be seen. It refers to Saturn Planet.

Sunday is yellow and refers to the Sun and its color.

Monday is green and Refers to the Moon.

Tuesday is red. It is the color of love and refers to Mars.

Wednesday is blue. It is the color of holiness and is associated to Mercury.

Thursday is the color of dust (Khaki) which is the color of worship and refers to Jupiter.

Friday: Seemingly free from all colors but combining the characteristics of many colors. It is associated with Venus

Nezami narrates the story like this:

When the ruler of the Sasanian Persian empire, Bahram returned from his battles and felt that his country is stable, he decided to have a respite. He thought to seven smart, attractive and pretty Princesses from seven different empires and hence the name Haft Paykar (seven beauties).

The first one was an Iranian whose father had died.

The second one was from Khaqan. He sent his messenger there to discuss and persuade the king and fetch the princess and their due taxes. Then asked Kaiser to bring his daughter as his bride.

The first one was an Iranian whose father had died.

The second one was from Khaqan. He sent his messenger there to discuss and persuade the king and fetch the princess and their due taxes. Then asked Kaiser to bring his daughter as his bride.

The third one was the princess of Morocco.

After that he traveled to India and asked for the princess, then from Kharazm and Soqlab was the last one.

Bahram gathered them and made a big welcome party in the first day of winter which was very cold.  The servants entertained everybody with delicious food and tasty wines and nice music.

Each princess made a speech.

At the end one of them said: we are very happy here & hope your monarchy lasts life time [Long Live the King]  it would be so nice of  the king if make somewhere which never be affected by seasons changes, and I wish we were far from bad eyes.

Discussing this idea, a gentleman who was called Shide, was a talented architecture and had old hands and knowledge in many different subjects, “If the king allows me I’ll build some nice palaces” he said bowing. I will build each palace in a unique color which related to princess' nature & astrology.

What benefit will we gain out of this? The king asked

These are just the house of pleasure. Where is the house of the creator (God).

Although he was in doubt, he didn’t hurry to refuse it. Some days later he called Shide and told him to start working on the palaces.

Shide began to build palaces and it last two years.

Wearing cloths as the same color as each palace, the king visited the princess and during winning and dinning every one of them narrated a story.

To be continued…

*nomenclature: system of naming something

*respite: a short period of rest or relief from something difficult or unpleasant
