" Experience" idioms

1.be an old hand at something: کهنه کار بودن

have lots of experience

-Mr.Johnson is an old hand at carpentry.

2.be green: تازه کار

lack training;experience or conditioning

-David is green, he has just graduated from Medical School.

3.be wet behind the ears: ناشی بودن

be inexperienced; not know how to do something

-She will need some help because she is wet behind the ears.

4.get one's feet wet: تازه به کاری دست زدن/ الفبای کار را یاد گرفتن

begin;do something for the first time

-He is just getting his feet wet.

5.go to the school of hard knock: در کاراستخوان خرد کردن/ کار کشته/ درس نخوانده ملا شدن

learn from work and troubles and not from formal education

-He went to the school of hard knocks. He never went to school.

6.know something like the back of one's hand: مانند کف دست شناختن

know thoroughly and completely

-He knows the road like the back of his hand.

7.know the ropes: لم کار را دست داشتن/ راه و چاره را دانستن

have a special knowledge of a job; know how to do something

-He know the ropes. He is used to fixing up old houses.

8.live-and-learn: زگهواره تا گور دانش بجوی

learn more as life goes on;learn by experience

-Barry takes a live-and- learn approach in his work.

9.not be born yesterday: کار کشته بودن

not be inexperienced and easily fooled

-Frank was not born yesterday. He can take care of himself.
