Solve the mystery of the thief!?

The dried leaves made crackling sound under the Inspector's feet as he walked qround the yard of the mansion. Finally, he came toan open door. Police officers were standing there, talking to a man who held an ice bag to his head."Inspector, I'mMark. I was hired to guard the mansion while the family is away.""Tell me what happened," saidInspector."I stepped into th eyard for a moment. The burglar must have crept up on me and knocked me out. Then, hetook all the valuables in the house.""Arrest him, men! He's lying!"Why did the Inspector suspectMark's story?

  • Hi Reem,Nafis,Zahra,Lynne,

You are all so clever, you should work with Sherlock Holmes. All the answers are true:
the first reason is :the yard was full of dried leaves that made crackling sound when stepped on.. he would have heard someone is on his back..
The second is like Nafis said: he knew the burglar took all the valuables in the mansion, is it also possible to take all valuables in just one night UNLESS you know where the valuables thing are hidden?
    Thanks all
    Kamel
  • Hello Kamel,
The sound of the dried leaves could have alerted Mark.
    Good day!
  • I think the answer lies in the first line of the story;THE DRIED LEAVES;how could the thief CREEP UP while there were lots of dried leaves making cracking sounds?
    am i right?
  • Dear Kamel, since Mark knew what was stolen from the manison.

    Have a nice day/night!
  • Hi Kamel
May be because of the sound of the dried leaves. Mark should hear the sound before burglar coming.
