Google has released Chromium OS as a open source project. The news about Google’s Chrome OS has been received by people with anticipation which is expected but views on the OS are different in many ways. Some experts think Chrome OS will drive Google to go the Microsoft way. Others think it will not last and the idea of an Chrome OS is not suitable when Linux is still around.About Google Chromium OS

# Chromium OS will work on the principle that many people who use a computer may not want a OS which takes 45 seconds to load up. Chrome OS will load up in approx 3-4 seconds.# One thing that stands out with Chrome OS, is it’s laser like focus on the internet. Google being an internet giant has not lost it’s focus with its OS. It keeps the focus as the internet and has built the Operation System around what a internet user will need.# Chrome OS will not store a lot of data on the computer. This will give it a great advantage when it comes to security. All files and data will be stored online. Even if the computer is hit with a virus when Chrome OS updates the virus will be removed automatically.# This will also mean that when if Chrome OS crashes, there will be no data loss as all data will be stored online.

  • Did you try the chromium os(operating system) or browser? Well it's all same thing. except in chromium operating system you basically have a computer that have nothing else than chromium web-browser. :)

Well it's really not ready for everyday use yet. Not the os nor the web browser. The only good thing about it, is that there is K-on theme available.. LOL. but I think also that could be something more fancy. :P

  • I'm not very smart about viruses and all that security stuff.

Well, there is not yet known any wide-spread viruses for linux. And because chrome os is based on linux it's still pretty safe. There have been many rootkits for linux and other malwares, but for some reason they don't live in internet.. They aren't able to spread them selves.

Linux is multiuser operating system. Where each user have own specific rights. A regular user can access only files in his/her own home directory. And also each file have set rights, what can do with it... who can see it, who can modify it, can it be executed and who can execute it. In linux The only superuser is "root". When you want to make any modifications in system it's self. You need to login as root...

Root kit is basically a malware, that uses some bug in software to gain root privileges. But so far many of these are discovered, but they are very quickly fixed too. Unlike in windows when a security hole is discovered and reported, there will be soon a fix available.

But obviously any computers, can't be secured from careless or stupid user. But if you don't log in as root you can't at least harm the system it's self or other users data.

You can read about linux and malware from.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux_malware

Well as much I have researched so far most linux gurus say that. Linux don't have viruses because it's just so virus hostile environment that viruses can't breed there.

No it's too early for it to get popular. After all it didn't work so well yet. It worked well here in MyEc, but some web pages that were full of flash adds. It got broken. I don't remember, if it played any flash.. but the configuration buttons or menus or what they're called there, didn't work any more. There was only possible to close tabs and open new tabs and go to web pages.. until I switched it off and reboot.

Well I hope that in future it will have some adds blocking thing by default, because otherwise it's pointless. But I don't think Google would be happy if someone had a add blocker in it. But I can't also imagine someone wanting to use a slow mobile device, when it gets really slow because some web pages are full of adds that are made by idiot programmers or/and designers.

It works. fine. :)
