Hi, my dear friends! Now, I am reading the pronouns on English Club. One of the most difficult subjects and also, most interesting subjects for me about the pronouns, is above indefinite pronouns.I don't know where I should use them.I have read the below story about the four pronouns on English Club:"There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it. but Nobody did it. Somebody got angry about that, because it was everybody's job. Everybody thought Anybody could do it, but Somebody realised that Everybody would not do it. It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done".The above story is very interesting, but yet, I am confused about using the above pronouns. Now, here are my questions:1- How can we use them in a sentence correctly?2- Can we use them with third person of single?3- Can we use all of them with single verb?4- Does "nobody" make negative a sentence? Please, forgive me for disturbing you.I see that I am only learner who asks a lot of questions on English Club.It is because of, I love to learn English in details (or deeply).I hope all learners to benefit these questions. Thanks in advance and best wishes,

  • Dear Danny!
    Please, disregard my question.
Thank you very much for helping me.
    Best wishes,
  • Dear Bijan! I have read that page but I haven't seen what you say. Nobody will ever say any is negative.

  • Dear Danny!
I agree with your above explanation 100%.
But, my question is exactly about the chart in the above link.
Why has the chart used "negative" for anyone, anybody, anywhere and anything?
    Does it mean negative sentences?
    Sorry for disturbing you,
  • Dear Bijan! You have got something wrong. ANY is not negative at all. We do use in the negative sentences, but ANY, itself, is rather interrogative. It doesn't make a sentence negative. For example:

I know no one here. OR

    I don't know anyone.

Both sentences are correct and mean the same.

Above the sentences you are asking about is said that in these expamples ANY is close to EVERY. Of course, they are not negative, they are affirmative. I would say, in these sentences Any is close to WHATEVER, WHOEVER, WHEREVERE.

    For example:

They can choose anything from the menu.

    I can also say:

They can choose whatever they like (any dish they want to order).

  • Dear Danny!
First of all, thank you for above link.
The link has a nice explanation about indefinite pronouns that I had never seen it before.
I don't know how to thank you?
I read the link carefully and I learned a lot of subjects about indefinite pronouns.
You and Tanya are very kind with your students that introduce them these nice links.
I strongly suggest that all learners read it.
One question about the link, please:
It has said, in above of the page in a chart "anyone, anybody, anywhere, anything" are part, but negative.
While, I see in below sentences, there are not any negative meaning:
1- They can choose anything from the menu.
2- You may invite anybody you want ....
    3- We can go anywhere....
How can we resolve this challenge?
    Best wishes,
  • Thank you very much.
  • PERMA- means PERMANET(LY)
