Self diagnosis on the Internet

Without doubt we are influenced by Internet and I would like to know to which group of people you belong :)Since we can look up so many information on the Internet, some of us (ehmmm including me) became New Internet Docs :D and when we or our close ones suffer from something.. tadaaa..we are here with usually wrong, pessimistic diagnosis.. Are you like this too or you just go to doctor and don't try to find out what's wrong with you???Thank you for sharing your experiences :)

  • Personal opinions and professional opinions are just that:- opinions.  They are the best guess based on the situation, and having more or less education, more or less experience, and exposure or a more rational outlook can sometimes impact how accurate or constructive your guesses are. Simple and common diagnoses are sometimes easily found. For example, refractive error, or sinusitis. The problem comes when they relate common conditions too dangerous ones.

For example - aphthous ulcers are a common occurrence, but ulcer is a presentation of malignancy. When they search about ulcer on the internet, they get intimidated if it could be cancer. Making the correct diagnoses is often the most difficult part of medicine and even well trained, smart doctors have difficulty getting it right.
On the other hand, the internet is excellent for helping people learn about their diagnosis and for learning tips to manage their disease once they've been diagnosed.

  • I just for getting much vision about the problem prevaiing me open the window, otherwise it is now wise to advice upon the knowledge we come to know.  When it was finally diagnosed that I hade a hole in my heart, I tried to find out what is MURMER, ASD, or ISD, Or Plast, and then open heart surgery from the internet just to know what is the real problem.  I anyway went through all the open surgery.  I wished that I could be able to mend the hole myself just to avoid the heavy expenses. God bless me and all similar to me.

  • Anah, omgggg!!! Hope you are ok now and it was kinda lesson that internet sucks as for some medical advice etc. Btw I went three years ago for one kinda horrible check up and read so much about it on the internet that all those experiences just scared me to death.. and guess what? Then I was totally ok with it and survived it :D Every and each body differs so I read about some experiences etc. but now I am more like.. ok but I am not the same like others ...Thanx for sharing your experience ..even though it was negative but good one for others to read...
  • There is not a single thing that I don't google. Be it related to medical or a weird crap. I google each and everything.

Lately I searched about cystic acne and its treatment and the treatment google suggested turned my acne into injury; and when I went to see a doctor he made a case of self injury and injected anti-bacterial medicine into my acne. It was a gross experience. I regret using that remedy on my acne.

I usually check the side effects of certain medicine or treatment, but I don't understand how come I injured myself without having a second thought.

It gave me a moral; never trust every remedy you read on the internet!

  • Well.. it let's see next week after appointment with doctor..if m dying or not :D

I almost diagnosed myself with cancer yesterday..
    Oh crazy you!! D:
I hope you're okay... and don't dare to have cancer ever or I'll kick your ass! :3
Usually I prefer to check out in the Internet right after having a professional diagnosis, to know more about it or additional suggestions apart from the medical. For instance, I like to check which kind of food is good or bad for any disease, even if is just a cold or a headache!  That's how I found out once, after having a terrible migraine, that strawberries are not good if you are prone to headaches :(
(that day I just ate a big bowl of strawberries and cream... my last one... sigh)

Well, I'm a 'curious cat' so... of course I do that! hahaha....

My cautious and rational side says that I shouldn't do that because it can just lead to confusion, paranoia and nonsense. We all know you can find lot of bullsh*t in the Internet and since we are not professionals, we can't really know how accurate and reliable is the information we are reading.

But having said that... I can't help it! XD
I feel the urge to look up for any disease or minor ailment for myself, my relatives, my friends or even my cat when the poor lil thing was sick haha...  Needless to say, the first thing to do is a visit to the doctor and follow the professional guide and advice. But even if I do that... my head still is full of 'Whys' and 'Hows'!!! I need more info about everything so I just take a look what Dr. Google has to say about it :D

What can I say... I'm just a silly human :(
