Fear is sometimes good and sometimes bad because some fears are from sins we have done and some are to keep us away from sins. Mostly we should have fear and if we wont have fear we cant learn that we were doing good things or bad things. we should fear God because we respect his choices and he respects our choices.

I think fear is essential for life because it is our natural instinct. When we fear that often means there is danger or there is something that can harm us in our way. Fear is necessary for survival because with out it people would do stupid things and injure themselves. Same as pain. I would put this two in the same category because both of them are like guide lines to help you not to be damaged morally or physically.
