History

Did you know that the 'Slow Food" movement was created in Rome in 1986, when a famous fast- food chain opened up there for the first time?

Five European countries signed the founding agreement of ' Slow  Food' in Paris in 1989, on the 200th  anniversary of the French  Revolution.

The symbol of this movement is the  snail. It is now based in Bra, Italy. It is an international movement which sets new eating  standards.

One of the very first members of 'Slow  Food' was Greece.

What's it about?

'Slow Food' was a reaction and a protest against the cultural impact 'Fast Food' has had.

The 'Slow Food' movement is not just about food; it is an effort to restore the culture that is linked to each kind of food cuisine.

The various national cuisines and  the  procedures involved in having a meal play a very important role on the identity of every ethnicity.

The followers of 'Slow Food' are against the fact that globalisation has made us all eat the same things , in more or less the same way, forgetting our own culture and traditions.

What does the 'Slow Food' movement actually do ?

Slow Food' shows us how dangerous fast food is, both to health and the environment.

It shows us how the concept of fast food gradually destroys  the best part of the culture of every nation: it's food!!

It tries to make us understand how dangerous it is to have a few large companies monopolise the food industry and control both the industry and our personal lives!
