Writing prompt: subjunctive mood

Hi my dear friend,A few days ago, my father felt a little dizzy and fell down. Thankfully I were there. My sister and I took him to doctor. After examining my father carefully, doctor informed us that his heart has become weak. The doctor suggested my father to take rest. He said it is vital that my father stop smoking. He also told us that stress is so harmful And it is so important that my father do not have any anxiety. The doctor gave some pills. He said it is necessary that my father have them exactly according to prescription. Thank god he is better now. We asked him to do whatever doctor advised him to do. I wish he were more careful with his health. I wish he never smoke. I hope to see you soon.stay healthy.

  • Great effort. The subjunctive can be tough! Thanks for working on corrections with Setareh, Expector!

  • I got it dear expector. Thank you souh for your correction.
  • Very good!

Most of the verbs were correctly used with the subjunctive verb forms. A couple of sentences need fixing, though:

    1. "Thankfully I were was there." - you don't need to use any subjunctive verb form in the sentence.

    2. "The doctor suggested that my father to take a rest." - you failed to use the subjunctive. You don't say 'suggest someone to do something'; you should say 'suggest that someone do something' (subjunctive) or 'suggest doing something'. 'Suggest' is a tricky word.

    3. "He also told us that stress is so harmful And that it is so important that my father do not have any anxiety be so anxious." - Be careful with the negative form of the subjunctive.

    Hope you get it!
