My friends! Today I will present you a few phrasal verbs with the same verb and different prepositions.

To blow away - to impress: to shoot a person to death.

To blow down - if something is blown down it has been brought down by the wind (speaking about some heavy objects that fall down like a tree, a house...).

To blow off - if something is blown off/away, it has been removed by the wind (speaking about something light, like a hat, a feather, a roof....)

To blow out - to go flat (first of all, about tires); to put out a candle, a match by blowing.

To blow up - to explode.

Now, you can see how different they are although they are not idioms at all. In any phrasal verb BLOW means the same: the wind or any air (maybe emotional) stream/flow.

As usual, it would be great to read and to correct your stories with these phrasal verbs. You know, it is unnecessary to use all of them, just a few will be OK. Besides, you can use other phrasal verbs you need. Please, let your stories be short as we both are starting lecturing on Monday.

Have a great challenge and happy weekend!

  • Danny Please check for the errors:

She was not beautiful, but I was blown by her personality away.  Every time I meet her it has blown down something in my stomach, and my entire-self got blew off.  I always tried to blow out her thought, but in vain.  Her rare personality impressed my very much.  Then one day it blew up, “Am I in love?!”

  • Hello,Danny! This is my attempt to write something and hope it won't be very bad as I think about my own English. I am great fan of cricket since my childhood days so I am gonna write about that experience of the life of a cricket fan which was as exciting as anyone can ever hope for. There was a player named Sachin Tendulkar who used to play for India and he was one of the best cricketer of the team until he was part of the set up. He used to blow away every opposition bowler with his destructive style of batting every now and than. Caption from opposition camp used to threaten by sher presence of his in the opposition team. They often make plans to dismiss him but all those plans never got successful because of his masterclass and the ability to unlock plans of the opposition team. This ability of his makes him one of the legend of the game. I remember one of the game played in Sharjah(UAE) between India and Australia. In this particular match storm had interrupted so many times. Wind was blowing so heavily out there at ground and making it at most impossible for umpire as well as players to even stand there. After storm stopped match started again and it was time for the storm to blow from Sachin's bat and he did the same. Ultimately, India won the match with few over to spare.

  • Sir Danny, thank you so much for correcting my paragraph, I know that the grammars are not fine as I wanted it to be. hahaha! I will continue to comment on your blogs so the more knowledge I will gain. God bless Sir and keep it up.

  • Dear Peppo! You can ask me about a gerund, too

  • Thank you very much for the correction, Danny. I made a lot of mistakes, hehehe.. I am trying to do another challenge especially gerund, I still don't understand about this.
  • Dear Serene! I am sorry, but it will take me some time to correct your story. It is much easier for me just to rewrite it. But I will try to do my best to save your original text

  • Dear Peppo! Your story is also very good! Here are my corrections and you can ask your questions. I'd like to say at once, that people can't blow down a tree. To blow down means to bring something down with the help of some air stream/jet. So, here is your corrected story.

I was on the way to the place where my friend was supposed to pick me up. As soon as I had arrived there I immediately made a call.

    “Where are you?” I asked.

    “Almost there...”

Some noise interrupted his voice. I screamed __ hearing the sound like bomb explosion, then men's laugher.  I was busy with my problems and didn’t notice at all that a few people tried to fell a big tree. They made it successfully.

“Are you okay? What was that?” I heard my phone still working.

    “yes,  just a fallen tree”

“I thought you were blown away by someone, Hahaha!”

    “In your dream”

Before long, he arrived and I got into his car.

“Why did they do that? This city is running out of trees”

“Electricity blacked out last night (or “there was a power failure”). I heard the generator had blown up and set to fire the tree near the power pole. The fire wasn’t so big but the best thing to do was to get rid of the tree and to fix the damaged/defective/faulty device”

“Well, this is for you” He handed me a card with a painting of two little kids holding hands “Happy Belated birthday” He avoided looking in my eyes and kept talking “I am sorry I forgot about your birthday”

“You will be forgiven after treating me to  pizza”

“Really? Do you need something else? Like to blow out a candle?

  • My dear ladies! Thank you so much for your nice stories!  My special thanks to my wife who tried to show you how to use these and other phrasal verbs correctly.

Dear Risty! Glad to meet you! Your story is interesting and very lifelike. Here are my corrections in bold. Of course, you can ask your questions, if my corrections are not clear.

I tried my best to blow him away with my not-so-charming dress for that day, for me it was elegant and classic. I wanted to look so. But all of a sudden and  to my dismay, the pot from  the top was blown down and __crashed into pieces right in front of me, I was so scared and shocked __ thinking  that it could have fallen onto my head. To my greatest distress__,  some wind came from below and blew off my skirt. And the timing was perfect, he arrived and saw me in such a disgracing state. He realized how humiliated I was. He came up to me and said: "Don't feel bad, I will give you a blow out for this day (what do you mean? It is not clear), let's have some hot chocolate.", he thought I was pacified by that invitation?  But no, I was not! I was about to blow up!

  • Dear Teachers,. here is my attempt, I tried to make it as short as I can.

I was on the way to the place my friend suppose to pick me, once I arrived there I immediately made a call.

    “Where are you?” I asked.

    “Almost there...”

A noise interrupted his voice, I screamed for hearing a sound like bomb then men's laugh, I was busy on my own and didn’t notice at all there were few people tried to blow down a big tree, they made it successfully.

    “yes,  just a fallen tree”

“I thought you were blown away by someone, Hahaha!”

    “In your dream”

Before long, he arrived and I got in his car.

“Why did they do that? This city is running out of trees”

“Electricity went down last night. I heard the generator had blown up and burned the tree near the power pole. The fire wasn’t so big but the best thing to do next is to get rid the tree besides fix the troubled device”

“Well, this is for you” He handed me a card with a painting of two little kids holding hands “Happy Belated birthday” He avoided my eyes and kept talking “I am sorry I forgot your birthday”

“You will be forgiven after treat me pizza”

“Really? Do you need something else? Like a candle to blow out

  • Sir Danny, let me try, albeit not as pleasing as others will do.

I tried my best to blew him away with my not-so-charming dress for that day, for me it was elegant and classic. I wanted to create an impression of a vintage charmer but all of a sudden to my dismay, the pot from the from the top was blown down and was crushed into pieces right in front of me, I was so scared and shocked to think that it might fall on to my head. To my greatest distressed,  there's a breeze came from below that blew off my skirt and the timing was perfect, he arrived and saw me in a disgracing scene. He realized how humiliated I am, he walked towards me and approached me, "don't feel bad, I will give you a blow out for this day, let's have some hot chocolate.", he thought I was pacified by that invitation? no! I'm about to blow up!

I know this is not fine, but please correct me if there is something wrong. Thanks Sir Danny. God Bless you!
