How is it to live in one of the biggest city in Europe that 15 000 000people call home, a place where oriental and occidental cultures meet .As turkish, can you feel this special atmospher ?I would like to answer your first question as telling with some history notes. Everything which is wondered into this article.I made a research into the trusted source before writing path. Just for a little brush up our memory to recollect quickly.Meeting East and West is at the same geography;I- Religious Conflict and Separating Istanbul and RomeDuring the risening Christian and its accepting in Roman Empire, the regional conflicts have been occured and consequently churchs were separated . Afterwards Roman and İstanbul was broken off entirely at 1051. Following religious leaving The Crusades looted in Istanbul and this separation turned into the hate.Since establishing the first churches by St- Paul in Antakya, Efes, Iskenderiye, going along with Mission of St.Paul in these place, Recognizing as a first counsil of the church which had been held in İznik, in addition determining Christians Living and the rules of the churches and elimination of “Countless Bible” except only four of them by İznik Council , Following Efes at AD.425 and Kadıköy (İstanbul) at 451, in conclusion; The Assembly of this Three Council is no doubt that it can be said that Ottoman Empire was located for both a set of religions and assemblies were together, as well as those situation had never been occured before in history. Here is the Ottoman had taken over this inheritance in the middle of 5 century.II- Conquest of IstanbulFollowing İstanbul had been taken by Fatih Sultan Mehmet, Sultan of the Ottoman Empire who was a Roman caesar, respected patriarchates, notably one of whom is Orthodoks Rum and had subordinated them to the empire.III- Anatolian Civilizations and Being into Turkish.Hittite, Lydia, such like a set of etc. Chronologically, Persian, Alexander The Great Empire, Roman Empire, Byzantine and Turkish.III-Foundation of Ottoman EmpireThree factor had determined the period of coming into existence of Ottoman Feudalism at 13.century. First , Turkoman’s immigration to Anatolia from Middle Asia and foundation of Seljuk Empire, second Invasion of Mongol, at the end Anatolian’s Location was on the world trade ways. In Anatolia, Begining of Turkoman’s operations towards to Mongol and Byzantium had resulted in when Ottoman had been established. (1299-1922)For much beter understanding of mix cultures ; we‘ed beter see at the “Census of İstanbul at 1477”Muslims 8951Christians 3151Jewish 1647OtherTotal 14803Ottoman State was Muslim and had been built up as “Enhanced Government”. Borderland had been extended from Europe, Mesopotamia and the Caucasus, North Africa and to the great part of the middle east. After 1. world war Ottoman Empire had become dead tried, finally it was canceled and established “republic of Türkiye” by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk. (1920-23)2. As you know, i love your city and i am there 2-3 times a year. I havethe feeling things changed a little in the last 6 years. For example, first time i was there, 6 years ago, i didn’t see, in the streets, womencompletly covered in black, last May, i saw them in many different places. What do you think has caused this change and how do feel about this ?Yes you are right. I am deeply sorry to see them everywhere in İstanbul. I can explain this case like that: Everythings is depent on power of global economic and it’s structure. Unfortunately politics philosophy and it’s benefits resulted in as islamic movements. Turkey having been debating its issues and passing most difficult corridor recently. The principle theme are Human Rights, Reviewing of Constitution,Talking about an organization “Ergenekon”, Making reforms on the laws, Improving diplomatic relations, Keeping position in th middle east., adoption EU criterias,3. If you had friends coming to Istanbul for just one day and you wantedthem to experience the real Istanbul where would you take them ?Historical peninsula is most important area For example ; The oldest acropolis has been found under Topkapı palace, in historical peninsula,Also You must see archelogy museum, Basilica Cistern, Hagia Sophia, Mosques., Kapalışarşı, Mısırçarşısı, Sultanahmet meydanı ve camisi.Bosphorus and more...4. As you know , there is a polemic about Turkey being part of Eu.Personaly, i think it would be good to have your country included inUnited Europe. Can you give me your opinion about this ? And why doyou feel this way ?Actually, it will be good but it’s impossible. As far as I am concerned religions role play in being granted membership. But, Eu criteria is important to catch the standardization.5. Have you had the opportunity to talk about this topic with peoplearound you and what do you think the majority of turkish people thinkabout this ?Intelligentsia thinks about this membership won’t be acceptable by EU around me.6. The Turkish city of Istanbul has a 60% chance of suffering a largeearthquake within the next 30 years, scientists believe. Selma, do youthink that, as turkish authorities know this, they have a plan in case ofearthquake, do they practice earthquake drills so everybody is ready toface it ?Of course there are some preparations ; making law for construction industry is under the conrol and approves to only making buildings safe, there are set of rules & writings on web pages of related institutions however they are all theoric level.Unfortunately, I can’t feel all them are in the course of life.I wish to thank Selma for this challenging interview about her country. She really invested herself in answering my questions and she made it very interesting.

  • Hello Tara,
I don't know if you missed the interview or if i did send the link to the comment on Writing challenge. I still have problems to manage this website !!!

Now about the editing challenge you gave me : i can feel there is something wrong in those two sentences but i can not really tell you what. So I re-wrote them with the hope they mean what my friend Selma wanted to say.

"I made a research into the trusted source before writing path. Just for a little brush up our memory to recollect quickly."
I tried to stay as close as possible to Selma's sentences.

I made a research among trustable sources before writing them down here, just to help our memory to quickly recall.

Thanks for giving us your time.
    Manuela
