dream school

A few months ago we had fun building our dream clubhouse. The writers were so creative I thought it would be fun to build our dream English school.

Are you currently attending an English school? Have you attended one in the past? Think about what you liked and what you didn't like. What would you do differently if you owned the school? What would your English school look like if you had all of the money in the world? How would it operate? This school could open in the future, when technology and travel were even more advanced than they are today. Here are some things to think about:The teachersThe lessonsThe locationThe curriculumThe hoursThe extra curricular activitiesThe subject matterThe technologyThe class sizeThe class lengthThe foodThe rulesThe class demographicsThe feeThe appearanceYour task:1. Create a post on your own MyEC blog called "Writing Challenge #12: My Dream English School" (Thank you to last month's participants for starting this submission trend! It was a great idea to have the stories on your blogs instead of in the comments.). At the end of your post write this question for readers: "Would you go to my school? Why or why not?"2. Come back to this page and provide a link to your dream school post in the comment section. (Click on the icon that looks like a chain. Insert the url from your own blog post. Let me know if you have any problems.)3. Visit other "Dream School" posts by members and answer their question: Would you go to their school? Why or why not?My Example:My dream English school would be located in New Mexico. I have never been to New Mexico, but I hear it is an inspiring place for writers. There would be fresh coffee beans in each classroom (and a place to store chocolate). The teachers would be allowed to wear jeans to school. Each class would have a maximum of six students and we would all sit on bean bag chairs near a big window. Much of the classroom work would take place outside of the classroom, in local art galleries, cafes, and parks. School would start around ten in the morning and end around two. Students would take turns bringing in food from their native countries to share for lunch and snack time. Yum! We wouldn't use many textbooks, but we would do lots of reading, writing, and sharing together. Once a week we would Skype with another English class from a different part of the world.Would you come to my school? Why or why not?--Note: I will *Feature the most popular "My Dream School" post on MyEC at the end of the challenge. Write your hearts out!

  • Well, a dream English school? It's not the building that matters the most, but the classes and tutors. To make learning effective, one shouldn't limit themselves to indoor acivities. Classroom meetings should be merely an occassion to discuss and share different experiences during real classes in a real English-speaking environment. The students go on trips, excursions; meet people, do shopping, ask for directions, visit interesting places, listen to stories, ask questions, discuss things of their interests. The tutor is just kind of manager and supervisor taking care of the students in terms of providing new and relevant topics. They (the tutors) are responsible for creating "realms" for effective and interactive communication between the students. They're looking for solutions providing motivation for being an active user of English.
  • Once I worked in a school that I was dreaming and longing all the years I've spent in teaching. The school acctually was graduated and accriditated as a modern school that meets all the needs and the requirements of the standard and ideal schools. The building was designed perfectly, that wide and large spaces make it easy and comfortable to move and practice.Bright colours are every where, well chosen plants and trees decorat the entrances, sides and classes. A smell of perfum spread through the preeze to mix with the fresh and clean air and fill all the lectur rooms and halls.
the building is a piece of beauty that joins the tradition with the modernization.
windows in classes are the most remarkable than any other school ,so wide that you feel sitting in a house of glass in a garden. The magic screen in front of the students, full of brightly coloured and beautifuly is prepared to attract the viewers to gain thier whole attention.t effecient teachers work side by side to present the issue which is related to the students' interests and............oh tara it a very long subject so some other time
  • Hi Passant. Is that your first name? Thanks for sharing your dream school! I love the fact that students get to pick which language they want to learn. Sports day sounds great too. In Canada, DPA is a regular part of the school day. Can you guess what this stands for?

Re: corrections: Your writing is fantastic. I recommend that you read this article about tidying up your written English. It is important to use punctuation and capitalization in English.
  • Tara

Your school sounds exciting at the same time realisable. Really yummy too! :))
  • Selma,
    1 and 2 are great.
    For 3 remove "to"
  • Thank you TARA for your correction, I have rewritten them,

    1) There would be a school for people who need or,
There would be a school where people in need ,,or..
.....would be located where people need it.
    2) All Teachers and Learners
    3) So, we would not to need............
  • Hi Selma,

Great! I love the idea of a "brain team"!

Okay, since you asked, let's go through a few corrections...
    1) In your first line can you see an extra preposition?
    2) In your fifth line (The all...)can you see an error with "all"?
    3) In your sixth line (So we...) can you spot a typo?
  • My dream English school;
would be located at where people need it. There must be brain team that they would take place above the operating body. This team would be an arge center. Traditional and modern approaching, experiments of self-study learners, discoveries in science is related teaching&learning would be subject to this center. The all of Teachers and Learners should be volunteer, willing and idealist. So we would not to need any determined hours. English will be at everywhere. Shoulder to shoulder. Of couse, there would have international standarts and its requirements also using full of technology.
    My slogan is that;
first ; before "be a good teacher", later "be a good learner". (getting any knowledge needs everyone is to be a teacher in oneself for both doing self-study or attending at any classing system,
second; Allow yourself to do for english is to be part of your life.

I wrote them based on my real experiences. I just wanted share my opinion here, no any intention to propound. :)

If you show my grammar & style mistakes, I will be grateful to Dear Tara,
    Thank you and regards,
  • My dream English school would be located in Indonesia, because it is my country and I love my country. The lessons should be a multicultural things with an international curriculum standard. The reason is to make a best understanding between nations but this is impossible things because of some reasons:
    1. To get a better education, one has to spend a lot of money and I don't have. Only rich people can access a better education.
    2. To get native speakers to be teachers in my country is impossible one due to of money,we have to spend much money to pay them
    3. To get a better technology in education only a dream, because only the rich people or middle class can get them.
So the conclusion is to get a better education is not a realistic thing for the poor.
  • Dayana2,
I love the application side of your school. That is such a great idea. I can picture this school in my mind. I would like to teach on this side. :)
