Winter solstice

Today is winter solstice in the north hemisphere.  It is the day with  the shortest daytime of the year. We eat rice balls which are made of sticy rice in Taiwan on winter solstice.  After eating the rice balls, you are added one year to your age. Children like rice balls a lot because they are usually cooked as sweat soup. I like the tradition because it is a symbol of family union, too. All family members get together with steaming rice balls soup on dinner table in the cold day. Sweat in the mouth as well as in the heart!

  • Thanks for telling me about YALDA NIGHT. I've checked it online. It's very nice to know we celebrate the the same day in different ways.

  • Sounds like a very good tradition.
