Winter in Dhaka

Over the past few days the Dhaka city dwellers have been experiencing the real bite of winter as the sky has been cloudy and no sign of the sun peeping behind the dense fog.The normal life has come to a halt as the people prefer now staying indoors to coming outside. The temperature has considerably fallen due to a mild cold wave blowing from the Siberian region has reached the north-western part of Bangladesh. In the rural areas of Our country, the winter is more severe because the temperature there almost goes down below freezing point. But there is no instance of any snowfall in our country. Luckily it also doesn't usually rain in winter in this part of theworld. The poor people have to bear the brunt of the acute cold because they lack warm clothes and any roof on their head. The vagabonds and the homeless people in the urban aras keep awake at night and try to warm themselves up by making fire with paper, wood etc.Winter is bleak and our poets have compared this season with the 'old widow' who wears a white saree. Apart from these bleak pictures we have some bright aspects in winter as well. For example, this is the season of mellow fruitfulness. The farmers reap their harvest at this time. So it is a season of bounty since we get ample food from our fertile soil.We celebrate amidst peace and happiness sharing good food and wearing loud coloured clothes. In fine, I would like to invite the people of other country to visit my land in winter which they will find very tolerable and fascinating. And to me Shelley's word is enough :" If winter comes, can spring be far behind ?"
