Today is Mother's Day in My Country

What do you know about Mother’s Day?

Mother’s Day is commemorated to appreciate the important roles of mother within family and social environment. Every 22 December Indonesia celebrate this day as Mother's Day, the date itself was determined by Soekarno (The first President of Indonesia) based on Indonesian’s histories and now I will not go into detail for the chronicle of Indonesia related to this theme. Generally some countries such as Australia, Canada, Germany, Italy, Japan, Netherlands, Malaysian etc, celebrate it on Sunday the second week of May (source derived from Wikipedia)

The meaning for Mother’s Day itself tends to express our affection and gratitude to mother by giving them a special presents, a flowers, special event as well as  freeing them from daily activities, especially for the day.

If anyone asking my opinion about it, I will state “I don’t need celebrate Mother’s Day - annually”. All of you will be furrowing your eyebrows after you heard it. Yes, my reason is “Everyday is a Mother’s Day”.

Thus, What do you think about Mother’s Day?Is that the same with my opinion or not?

  • Hello Lady Anne,

Since you mentioned me that I hadn't mentioned the history, now I will try to translate the history that underlining the date of Mother’s Day in Indonesia.

The date was inaugurated by President Soekarno (the fisrt president of Indonesia) under decree No. 316 in 1953 that it coincided with anniversary of The first Indonesian Women’s Congress in 1928 . The purpose of the day was chosen to celebrate the Indonesia women’s spirit as well as to raise awareness of nationalism. The congress itself  was held from 22-25 December 1928 at Dalem Jayadipuran Building, Yogyakarta, Central Java (one of the provinces in Indonesia, Indonesia consist 5 big islands and devided 33 provinces). It was attended by approximately 30 women’s organizations from 12 cities in Java island and Sumatera island. The women organizations had been developed since 1912, inspired by the heroes of Indonesian women in the 19th century as Kartini, Martha Cristina Tiahahu, Cut Nyak Meutia, Maria Walanda Maramis, etc (these women were warriors to fight for independence of Indonesia when this country had been occupied by Netherland and Japan). The initial aim of that congress was strive of women’s rights for education and marriage.

I hope my brief describing of the reason the Mother’s Day in Indonesia is commemorated at 22 December can make you happy :)

Ooh.. Lady Anne, you are really the filial piety daughter, I think your mother will proud of you and happy to having you as lovely daughter.  Honestly I believe if we treat our parent well in present, we will get the same treatment in the future by our children.

The setences from you that make me sad is “I want her to see the last stage of her life full of royal-like treatment from her children”, why?I can not look after her as you do because I live separated from them, but I always  manage my day off of working going to home if possible. I pray hoping our parents always getting health and happiness in their twilight age, aamiin.

Thanks Lady Anne to share with us :)

  • Hello Mishaikh.

When you said that “whenever and how many times she comes in my memory In a single pulse of my life”, may I conclude, that Is your mother passed away?If yes, from the bottom of my heart, so sorry to hear that.

Honestly I have 2 parents, it means 2 mothers and 2 fathers. They keep accompany and praying us till now, Alhamdulillah for that, althought their healthy not too good especially my mother. I can not look after her intensively because I live separated from her and my family because of my work.

So your words above has the deep meaning for me and for others that have the same experience to our parent.

Yes the picture above depicts the natural tendency of women all over the world, they will meet each stage of their roles in life.

Thanks for sharing with me and others.

  • Hi Dara,

Thanks, you have read and commented in this theme. It means you agree with my opinion, right :)

  • Thanks for sharing! It would be interesting to know why this date was chosen. Mother's Day is bitter sweet for me. I lost my mother when I was in my twenties. My mom meant the world to me, and she was a second mom to many young people who liked to hang out at our house.  When I was blessed with my own children a few years later, Mother's Day got a little easier. Every year on Mother's Day, I go to Chapters (bookstore) and enjoy some alone time with books. I love traditions.

  • Dear Icha, Happy Mother's day to all mothers. I really like your picture. My mum was there for me all these years. I think I am in the second row first picture. In future my mum may be need me more. I will make sure I'll there for her. Thanks for sharing Icha!

  • From the last picture above the life cycle starts again in the same pattern and it will continue till the last ...........................on earth.

    Very touchy.

  • Everyday is a Mother's day.  I wholeheartedly agree with you.

In my country, this special day falls in May.  There must be a reason why you celebrate it in December.  But since you haven't mentioned about it, I guess it can be found somewhere with the help of Mr. Google.

I love my mom very much just as I love my dad.  She is currently at her twilight age, so I am making it out the most for her.  I am treating her now like a queen.  I want her to see the last stage of her life full of royal-like treatment from her children.  I will surely miss her a lot when her time to say good bye permanently comes.

  • For me everyday of my life is mother day or at least whenever and how many times she comes in my memory In a single pulse of my life,  that is a mother day for me.
