It was the time when I was about 9 or 10 years old. My mother wrote her problems on a paper and  instructed me to give it to the man who was about 81 years old at that time wearing while curta, white turban, white beard and fair skin with shining face living in small room at the top of Mosque. I used to think that old people were unable to read and write, so I asked my mom if he could read what you had written. My mom, at once, castigated me and forbid to speak like this about him. She further educated me that Allah the Almighty had granted the power of listening to him who could listen to what we were talking about him from far away. That's called " Kashaf" in English "To be honest, I paid no heed to what my mom said to me at that time, but when I reached him and took out that paper from my pocket, he began smiling and said, "I don't know how to read". He asked me to read it loudly. I said to myself, "it means I am right. He doesn't know reading." While I was reading it, he kept smiling. I came back to home and told my mom the whole story. She said, " be careful next time and don't listen any comment on him." Despite all this, I  assumed that I was right and my mom was wrong. After few months, I got a chance to meet him at the night of Friday, I stepped up the stair of the mosque, at the top of which he used to live. As soon as I entered his room, I was astonished to see him reading, rather studying a book for preparation to orate at Friday prayer. I really felt ashamed of myself and fully convinced that these are people who hear and see by the light (Noor) of Allah. Later I came to know that he knew many languages, yet he never let anyone perceive that he was something. Very humble and so simple! That was a beginning.Who was he to me? He was my grand grandfather. He is known as Hafiz Gee or Hafiz sahab. He was pash Imam of Ghusia Masjid, B-one Area Liquatabad, bus stop old Dakhana, Karachi. He used to lead Eid pray in playground situated in B-One Area. When he departed from this worldly life, there were thousand of people in his funeral prayer.Nonetheless, this is not the criteria of judging the real Sufi or Wali as there are two types of sufis one is right and one is wrong. So, the best way of ascertaining Sufi or Wali is to analyze his actions with that of Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). The real Sufi never acts against Sharia. That's miracle! I have witnessed many miracles in my life.

  • @AG,
I am pleased to know that you agreed to all my statement which is all my personal experience.

    Thank for your comments
  • I agree with all your statement and especially the last part, I mean this "So, the best way of ascertaining Sufi or Wali is to analyze his actions with that of Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). The real Sufi never acts against Sharia."

but I also have some comments:

1- Let's omit the names that are now perceived as factors of dividing Muslims rather than collecting them in one unity.. so let's omit the usage of "Sufi" and "wali" as there is no benefit of using them and, let's use instead the words "Muslim" and "believer" and so on..

2- Let's supersede superstitions like "who could listen to what we were talking about him from far away" and "Kashif" with facts that "No one can know the hidden-things except God.. sometimes it happened that he told his prophets, but even he taught us that even prophet himself could not know, unless God told him in some limited cases.

3- Even the Wali's of Allah, they don't know that they are Wali's of Allah.. Allah knows them and tests them and blesses them for their good actions, but nevertheless they (themselves) can not know (like any other body) if they will be accepted by Allah or not.. Only Allah knows about his creations. So, what we do is, we always think the best of people, and leave the creation to its only creator as he knows the secrets and he hides them...

    ...........................................................

Regardless to my above points, I liked your story so much and I felt I wanted to meet this good man and talk to him. May Allah bless you and him all..

    Thanks for sharing :)
