RHODES - awesome island (Part One)

R H O D E S

Lately I read here on MY EC interesting nice blogs about places some members like Noaspls or Tree have visited and I have to admit that it inspired me to write a blog about one of the islands I fell in love with.

Let me interduce you one of the GREEK ISLANDS called  R H O D E S, which is situated very close to Turkish seacoast – just around 18 km far away.

I visited this island with my husband some years ago but all my experiences are still locked inside of me and I would like to share them here with you because Rhodes Island with its historical magic and picturesque landscape for sure essentially left in my heart awesome unforgotable memories.

Luckily there is direct flight from my city to island Rhodes, so to overcome the distance of 1.600 km took us about three hours. When I got out of the plane, immediately strong wind literally smacked my face up, which was very friendly and warm welcome of this island. Seriously, I had to get on with it and it took me few days to get used to for such strong wind we faced daily there. Actually, this wind betrayed me a lot because thanks to it I underestimated during the first day on the beach sun which shines very intensively there and got burned so that I looked like a pink pig.

Unfortunatelly, my burnt skin didn´t allow me to fry my body on the beach for another two days so we decided to travel and to visit some interesting places around the island. As you know Greece is called Cradle of the civilization and everywhere you come across something what proves it. I love history and I also love traveling so yupeeeee let´s go for a trip!!

We rented a car and decided to travel as much as possible because island itself isn´t one of the biggest. First of all we visited old ancient ruins of the city called KAMIROS. Would you believe that this city was here even 2000 years BC? In the ruins of Kamiros city that was twice destroyed by earthquake you can find old church, spa, amfiteater etc.

The castles are without any doubt connected with the history so our another destination was castle KASTELOS with its awesome and picturesque view. In such moment you realize how beautiful some sceneries can be and how beautiful life on this Earth can be. Btw this castle was built in such place becasue of the Osman´s attacks and they say it is one of the most well-preserved castles on the island.

Enough of the castles? NOOOO we will never have enough and that´s why we also visited the castle called MONOLITHOS. Awesome castle which was built in 15th century on the big rock and has never been conquered. One really doubt how they were able to build it up there. This castle is not so far away from the sea, anyway it is interesting that from the sea you can´t see it – good strategy to build it like this.

Another day we decided to continue and to visit the southern part of the island. The fist place we visited was PRASONISI – it is the most southern part where two seas  Aegean and Mediterranean) meet but when we were there they didn´t meet, which was better for taking the pictures. In the past Hippies lived there and especially people who like windsurfing or kitesurfing love it there becasue of the strong wind and  big waves. I was just watching the sea, people enjoying surfing since the wind was little bit strong and I felt so relaxed, thinking of nothing, 100% peace occupied my mind at that time – I felt like one of those hippies :-D

To come back like this was impossible without spending some time in the SPA KALITEA – beautiful place with its bay, restaurant, bar, music and nice beach. We enjoyed relaxing there, even though in the end we had to run away because the storm decided to finish our lazy stay on the beach.

Hope you liked it and I will try to come up with the second part as soon as possible. If you are interested in how we survived the earthquake there, keep on waiting ;-)

To be continued...

  • Treee :) m glad u liked it!! Well, i should have said..ruins of the Monolithos castle :D but i can see it there :D as for Prasonisi, I saw one pic where seas met and it was boring :D I think it depends on many circumstances and actually if seas met we wouldnt get to that one part we took the pic from ;)
  • I think getting sunburn is inevitable when traveling to the sea in the summer. But the ocean looks definitely more beautiful under that hot summer. So for me, it's worth to get sunburn :D.

#MONOLITHOS: Even when I look close at your picture, I can't imagine it's a castle haha

#PRASONISI: So which time of the year these 2 seas will meet? Standing on the path between them must be an awesome experience.

I had to scroll up and down again and again to see those beautiful pictures. How jealous I feel now T_T
