Problem


can someone explain me this Idiom -- "about time". with examples. Because I'm not getting it.

    Here are some more examples: 

    Jerry: Mom, I cleaned my room. 

    Mom: Well, it's about time! (Great, but you should have done it a long time ago!)

    Note: When used in this way, the second verb is in the past tense. It sounds awkward, doesn't it?

    Tina: It's about time I started dinner. 

    Lisa: Okay, I'll let you go. I should start dinner too. 

    You can also use "It's time" and exchange the past tense verb for the infinitive "to start".

    "It's time to start dinner."  

    Also, in @Ryszard's example, it could be changed to: "It's about time you knew such things."
