It was a boring afternoon when, I decided to watch TV. I browsed the channels and landed to an afternoon movie. The movie was about the young boy, Tama, who was swept in to the remote island. The set up was pretty uninteresting for me; but then I gave a try to watch the film. The movie was "The Legend of Johnny Lingo".The young boy was adopted by the chief of an island, and took him as his son; but then, the people are superstitious. They are saying that, the boy has cursed, because of the red birthmark on his butt. The boy was then passed on from one family to another. The young boy never got good treatment from every family he stayed. Until an island drunk man took him to be a helper of his daughter, named Mahana. Tama and Mahana became good friends. With a hope that his fate will change, Tama made a canoe. Tama and Mahana agreed to leave the island, but Mahana had a change of mind as she can't leave his father alone. Tama promised Mahana that he will return for her, then sailed away from the island.Tama was then swept to a wealthy island where a rich man, Johnny Lingo, lived. Johnny Lingo helps poor people. He said, "Richness is useful for the benefits of others". He helps the slaves to be freed. He gives them jobs and pays them well.Johnny Lingo kept Tama and taught him to be a good man. When Johnny became old and weak, he talked to Tama. He wanted Tama to continue the legacy of Johnny Lingo. He said that the original Johnny Lingo is dead. Before the real Johnny Lingo died, he made him his heir and successor with a promise to continue his deeds of helping poor and less fortunate people; and when Johnny Lingo died, he used his name to fulfill it. Then, he's passing it on to Tama to be the next heir and successor. Tama became the new Johnny Lingo.Tama as Johnny Lingo, returned to his old island and made a contest. All women prepared with a hope to be his wife. Tama, fulfilling his promise, chose Mahana to be his wife. This simple story caught me. Aside from the real love that Tama and Mahana showed, the legacy of Johnny Lingo stayed in my mind. Imagine, how that kindness changed the fate of a boy, who was once unfortunate. I have realised that the simple act of kindness would have big impact to the lives of many people. By passing on good deeds and by continuing it faithfully, would open good fortune to anyone. I wish that the legacy of Jonny Lingo would stay forever.

  • @ Anale: Thanks, Anale. Yes, this story has similarity with Zorro. The only difference is, "The Legend Of Johnny Lingo" is wholesome and didn't show any violence. A good familly movie to watch with children. It focused more in the purity of kindness and good deeds. It has good morale value which is very interesting to discuss and impart to the children.

@skyandhill: You are right, indeed. We are the one creating our own fate. This movie proved that "no one is an island". By giving hand to each other, there would be a good place for everyone to live in. We couldn't change the whole world by opening our arms to few, but we could able to help those few to have a better life.
