New Year New Gain

My new year holiday has run out. Today I am back to my work. The whole morning I still thought I was in the holiday!

I started my work from reading. It's a book I bought for myself as the new year gift. I'd love to share with you some funny idioms I picked up from the book this morning. Here we go!

Top Banana

The term top banana refers to the leader of a group or organization. It's smiliar to head honcho, big cheese, big enchilada.

Example: Is Mickey the top banana of Disneyland?

Monkey, you can not win the top banana!

The lights are on, but nobody is at home.

This term is used when describing a person struggles to fit into normal society, and subsequently rejected and described to people as a bit slow.

Example: Don't ask Tony what had happened. Um...you know, the lights are on, but nobody is at home.

When pigs fly.

This phrase equals to "it will never happen" or "I will never do it".

Example: ---Mickey, do you believe me?

             ---When pigs fly.

Everyone and his brother.

It refers to a very large number of people.

Example: Everyone and his brother is in the concert and listening to the musician carefully and intoxicately.

The world is your oyster.

If the world is your oyster, you have the ability to do anything you want or set you mind to do.

Example: The young people of today have so many advantages. The world is their oyster.

Over!

Happy lunar new year to you, and to myself. Giggling~
