My wild pet!

For many species, its inhumane to keep wild animals as pets. Some people cannot meet the behavioral, social, nutritional and psychological needs of the wild animal. But we got a wild animal family as our pets. Its a red fox family lives in our back garden.

The red fox is the most widely distributed and populous canid in the world. A male fox is called a ‘dog, a female fox is called a ‘vixen’, and baby fox is called a ‘kit’,’pub’ ‘or ‘cub’. A group of foxes is called ‘skulk'

(relaxing)

Like its name red foxes have rusty reddish-brown fur. Their long, bushy tail known as a ‘brush’ or ‘sweep’. During the autumn and winter, the red fox will grow more fur to keep themselves warm in colder environments. The fox sheds their fur at he beginning of the spring. Red fox is remarkably resourceful animal and able to cope in a different environmental conditions.

                                                                     (waiting for breakfast)

This red fox family is living in my back garden for many decades. Every morning they come for its chicken drumsticks and fish fingers. They are so friendly but not cuddly. When the new babies arrive the mums won’t come for food, and the dad will take the food to mum. Some times the foxes catch squirrels , mice, grasshoppers, beetles from the garden or its goes to the nearest park to hunt for rabbits.

Although we don't have any pets at home we got a fox family living in our back garden. It’s very difficult to provide an appropriate environment for the wild animal at home. But they are safe and happy in the garden. Many types of animals make great companions for us foxes too, if we know to keep our distance.

  • Wow! My sweet MARY, I should post your comment as another blog. It's so nice of you reading and leaving a lengthy meaningful comment. I appreciate it sweetie! The foxes in my garden are lovely. But I keep my distance. But mother-in-law is very close to them she named them individually and feed them depending on their interest. Some part of UK foxes does harm children and adults. Personally I didn't experience any thing and they are lovely. I know you are an animal lover. I am glad you liked my foxes too. I will post some thing after spring when the new babies arrived ok.

  • Dear Risty, Thank you for taking your time reading and comment. I appreciate it my sister. The old foxes will disappear suddenly and then new set of foxes will come. But always fox is in our garden, since 1970's (well before I was born). My husband's family is living in this house over 40 years. My mother-in-law said she saw fox the very first day she moved to this house. She is the one looking after them and feeding them.(bless her).

  • they are really nice.. I believe that Foxes are the most handsome animals if we count animals.. they put a really luxurious fur on, and they look very gentle on their coats.. The color of their coats look designed very specially to look very wow on them.. this is from the viewpoint of beauty, but if we consider amicability and friendly behavior, I don't think that their stocks will be high among others' .. even in our childhood stories, the mention of a fox was connected to the trick-making and evil-doing :D

For me, it sounds that you have managed to make a very special compromise keeping a distance and enjoying the beauty.. So, what I will say herein is..

Enjoy the view of your handsome neighborhood :D

  • Aww hello again Mr. Fox! ^_^

What a beautiful animal, I love it! And since you don't have chickens around you don't have to worry! haha... They are totally harmless :)

I'm also happy the fox hunting was banned several years ago in Uk, so this cute family is more or less safe from men's hands --even more if they live close to the garden of one of the most sweet and nice people in the world! ^_^

I agree with your first sentence that is not good to keep wild animals in captivity (mammals are the ones suffering the most mainly) Actually is not good at all and it shouldn't happen! There is a saying: "You can take away a wild animal from the jungle/forest, but you cannot take away the jungle/forest from the animal." Domestic or farm animals are used to live with the human being: Cats, dogs, sheeps, cows... They have been always very close to us, we've learnt to live together, there's been an 'evolution' in our coexistence.... But that doesnt' happen with wild animals, they are not and cannot be 'used to us' like domestic animals do. Wild animals need to live free, in their own habitat. Otherwise, we're stealing their lives and making them prisoners for life just because of a childish whim. Even if we take lot of care of them and feed them very well, they are never gonna be happy with us 'cause we can't give them their real life, the one they can have only being free in their world.

Anyway, sorry for the speech, I always become very emotional talkin' about animals because I can't help but looking at them as innocent creatures that we (the human being) can't stop harming and that makes me very sad. But fortunatelly, your cute fox family don't have to worry about anything, they are safe and sound close to your garden, and that's the best way to have wild animals: Just let them be wild and free :)

Thanks also for all these fox vocabulary! (vixen, kit, pub, cub, skulk) And your footnotes in the pictures are all so funny and cute! ^_^

Thanks for sharing this blog with us, I loved it! I hope you can share with us more pictures of the fox family in future blogs :)
