My trip to Sochi

Nowdays Sochi is the greatest Russian resort at the Black Sea . It is located on the east shore of the sea between Georgian and Ukrainian borders. It is a very interesting and beautiful city that combines many architectural styles and many cultures. Due to its subtropical climate there grow many fanciful trees, plants and flowers that are not regular for our zone. There are really magnificent landscapes: a modern city bordering upon the sea in the west and upon the green high mountains in the east. One of the most inordinary trees I have ever seen is so called tulip tree, or liran. The one you can see on the left is the oldest in that area. It is as tall as 12 storey building and is about 160 meters wide! Can you imagine that 11 adult men can't hug it?! In spring it starts blossoming and its bloom looks like yellow-red tulips (on the right). You can see such trees everywhere in Sochi.Sochi is rather young. It got the status of a city in 1917. However, this territory had been populated for many centuries before and was known by ancient developed countries. Persian tsar, Mitridad, the Great visited it in the 1st centrury B.C. There is a mount called after him near Sochi. Like most of our lands, this territory lived through many wars, invasions and conquests. Unfortunatelly, I don't know history of Sochi as well as I know history of my city. What I do know, that this land became Russian in 1829 after the end of the Russian-Turkish war. This city is also well- known due to the "Conference of the Three". It was held during WWII and it was then when the second front was agreed to be opened, i.e., Great Britain and America came along with the USSR and decided to get rid of Hitler alltogether. There is a monument devoted to that historic event (see on the left).Sochi is also famous for its parks. The Dendrarium (on the left) is considered to be the best but as to me, I wonder which one is the best. They are so beautiful and inordinary. Many parks combine great nature with unique architecture (on the righ)Modern Sochi is not only the greatert Russian sea resort but also a great cultural center. There are so many festivals all year round! Kinotavr is one of the popular movie festivals in Europe (on the left is a reward ceremony). Besides, there take place different festivales of humor, art and so on. That city has been chosen as a place for the Olimpic Games 2014.Come to this great city and you will get unforgettable memories!

  • oh, it's so beautiful. I am very lucky to read it.
I love old cities with natural sights. There are too many skyscraper in the cities, sometimes all we need is just some green hills and blue streams.....Thay meke me feel refreshed.
  • Dear friends! I am so glad you like this blog! Nida, you are so great! Do you think your hug is bigger than that of 11 males? (Ha-ha-ha!) I hope, it is but not for that tree! It is so old, huge, majestic and enduring that facing it any human feels small, helpless, mortal creature. About 100 years ago this tree was stricken by the lightning and fall in two parts as you can see on the picture. It was immediatelly tied with the steal chain that one can see on its trunk till now. But it is still alive . I believe that such relicts should remind us of our being a part of nature and prevent us from destroying it.
