My Tribute to Ms. Whitney Houston

Miss Whitney Houston is an amazing woman with an incredible clear tone/vocal. Born on August 9, 1963 in New Jersey. Her mother is Cissy Houston and has a daughter  named Bobby Kristina. Dionne Warwick is her cousin and Aretha Franklin is her grandmother who were legendary figures in American gospel and soul music like her. She sung at their local church when she was a kid. Truly, she is a Legacy.

She was discovered in a nightclub by the renowned Clive Davis of Arista records. It is where her stardom began. Her hit singles are " Saving All My Life For You" and " How Will I Know " that ran for fourteen non consecutive weeks. That record gave her a Grammy Award in 1986 and it was presented by her cousin, Dionne Warwick. She was a successful star from the first time she entered music industry. Her first album sold ten million dollars...best seller! Had a hit on a Billboard contemporary charts..a record breaker! I wish I have a voice like her. It has been said that she was really a good influence to black women.

When she is performing it is always a goosebump and all her songs was related to her. It means it is real. From music industry she also entered film industry, The Bodyguard. This was her debut acting career. Its official soundtrack " I will always love you " was a massive hit leading her to become the POP Princess. This movie was also a number one hit. A very romantic film, you know what made me giggled it was her bodyguard Kevin Costner.

Here in Philippines, whenever there are amateur singing contest, one of the singer's template is her songs. Her voice and songs are really infectious particularly to those who love to sing (like me). She is an inspiration not only to musical performers, but to everyone around the world.

Unfortunately, her career got off track when she married Bobby Brown who is also a singer (I am not certain if he was one the reasons of the declined career of Ms. Houston). They say her personal life was troubled because of her stormy marriage and divorced to Bobby Brown. Rumours said that she was consistently using drugs that lead to a career decline (sad). But she made a comeback with 2009's " I look to you". Before she died, she performed in 2011 Pre - Grammy Gala.

Filipino singers mourn Whitney Houston's death. Many local artists tweeted about her death saying about all her great contributions in music industry. They sung her phenomenal hit songs like Party Pilipinas did ( an entertainment show in my country) last Sunday, February 12. It was really a shocking news. The last time I read Yahoo news was about her condition/status in life. It was like a premonition on me. When I got home from church, I was watching TV show and wondered why are they singing Whitney Houston songs and they are like teary eyed. I asked my mother if Whitney already died. She just shrugged her shoulder. At the Breaking News, it was confirmed that she was dead (February 11). I guess until now they don't know what was the cause of her death.

As a music lover, her music will live on and on. She is really an icon in the music industry. An idol to every rising stars.  " Miracle, When You Believe, Greatest Love of All, One Moment in Time, and On my Own are few of my favorite songs of her. To you Miss Whitney Houston, your music remain forever. Goodbye and I love you. I want you to know that all your songs are amazing. May you rest in peace.

On My Own (mp3)

This song gives me hope. Thank you for this wonderful piece, Miss Whitney.

  • Hi Miley,

Indeed you're a fan of Whitney. You've informed us facts about her career. I couldn't agree more, how great she was as a performer. With Ms. Aretha Franklin as her grandma, it's no wonder they're both legendary. I agree with you, we could always hear Whitney's songs in every singing contest in our country. "When You Believed" is one of my faves. And it won in the Grammy's as best theme song for the movie "The Prince of Egypt"
