Einstein said that "The dark is only absence of light". It is not for 100% true, but now i want to tell you about another property of darkness. The property to make people afraid.
So, when the lights are disappearing, our world falls in the darkness. And also with darkness coming the silence. And as you already can guess that silence is nothing else like absence of noise. This couple of darkness and silence makes people afraid because even little sound transforms into clamorous noise!
Sometimes you can start to thinking "Omg, is it dark silence alive?" And also that deep dark silence can be so vivid that it press at your eardrums and you are forced to make some noice... just something to break that vivid deep dark silence.

Yes, there is something with darkness and silence, that creepy feeling. Perhaps it's a harm to watch so many horror movies.
Or maybe humans are just constructed that way, our senses are more aggravated in some situations.
