More about Cats: The Cat Theater

Dear friends! I decided to post this blog as a continuation of the first. I didn't expect to get so many comments on my first blog and I am thankful for your attention, your good attitude and friendliness. I see, you love pets in general, but what I've noticed is that many of you either dislike cats or have a wrong idea about them. So, I, together with Tanya (as she knows more), would like to tell you what we know about these mysterious creatures.

There is common belief that a cat can't be tamed completely or trained well. That is as right as wrong. First, we always compare cats with dogs and get a wrong idea that dogs are more faithful, more obedient, more trained and so on. In fact, we can't compare them at all as they belong to different families with different genotypes. As a result of evolution, any dog is born for loving and serving us, it is one of its basic instincts. As to cats, they don't have it, they are born to be free but when they are born and raised at home, they realize advantages of being domestic and never leave their houses. I think you know, if you take a domestic cat far away from home and leave it there, it will find its way home, contrary to a dog as a dog is looking for its master while a cat is looking for its way back home.

Cats, especially female cats, are mistresses at home. Marry, our alpha(dominant) cat, checks out all racks, bowls, toilets in the morning and makes us fill them up. She is always "on guard" stopping all misunderstandings at our zoo. She makes other pets behave and we rely on her when we go out for dinner, beach or so. As to Jenny, our dog, she is like a shepherd, keeps them all together, but she is still so young!

Honestly, I've wanted to tell you about something different. There are no bad pets, there may be bad masters as there are no bad students, there may be unprofessional teachers. If you want to tame a cat, you should love it, realize its nature, its desires and make advantages of that. It is how our girls tame us, men! They really know what they do! (Smile)

So, here we are to the point of this discussion!

I'd like to tell you about one world-known cat trainer, Yuri Kuklachev, Russian clown who really knew what cats want. He started perfoming with two pets only. They were his cat and his dog. Later on, he became very famous  cat trainer. I have no idea if he was the first, but he was the best. Now, there is a world-known Cat theater, Kuklachov Cats. He said, to tame or train a cat, you should know what it wants and is up to and encourage a cat to do that. You are the master of your dog, but you will always be a guest for your cat (in the best case), or just a servant (in the worst). But they may be our friends if we understand their needs. It is how we, men, should know what our girls expect from us. If we get them right, we will be on our ground (BIG SMILE!).

  • Dear Lica! It is the right word if you mean a non-pedigree (non-breedy) dog. I have never had any experience with mongrels, but I heard such dogs are even more obedient. As to me, a dog's breed is of on importance. A dog is the best friend. Will you really think about your true friend's color of hair, eyes, his figure, etc? I've bought a female golden retriever as she arouses the best memories of my childhood. But, in fact, I could have adopted any dog and still can as we are thinking about finding Jenny a friend. In America we say "Need a friend? Buy a dog!" as a dog is a true friend whatever she does. So, you have got it. Just don't allow her to do whatever she likes, but always praise her for the right actions. She will understand how to behave in time, but to raise any pet demands great patience, understanding and good intentions, first of all. I wish you good luck with your dog

  • I almost forgot, she is a mongrel. Is this the right word?

  • Hi Danny!! When I took her to my house it was something temporary, so I wasn't prepared to raise her. I didn't know anything about dogs.

You have such a smart dog. ^_^

Thank you and have a wonderful week!!

  • Dear Lica! It is not really easy to raise a dog, especially a big dog, in the right way. First, dogs are more liable to different diseases and viruses. Their immunity system is not as strong as cats'. So, they should be inoculated against the most dangerous viruses like rabies and canine distemper. In my area, it is also red tide and flu. So, any dog should be examined by a vet at least twice a year. Besides, any dog is very playful and challenging. They are like small kids, they want to "investigate" everything around and to learn and it is us who should teach them to behave as they are ready to obey. As far as I understand, your dog is a female and it is much easier to teach female dogs. I don't know the breed of your dog, but some big dogs need special training. Gold retrievers , labradors and some others don't need it. But when you raise any pet, you should alternate its praising with innocent punishmets all the time, especially when it is young. But you should never punish a dog for her good intentions. For example, last weekend we had a picnic and our dog likes picnics very much. She started helping us to load the car and tried to bring my guitar as she knows I always take it with me when we have some outdoor activities. But I had forgotten to case it the day before and my favorite guitar was badly damaged. I didn't punish Jenny for that as it was my fault. I praised her for her helpfulness and allowed her to ride on the passenger's seat by my side (it is like a candy for her!).

But I can't say dogs are more demanding. Contrary to cats, they need only our presence.

Well, when I start speaking about pets, I can't stop. Thanks for your nice reply and I will always be happy to share everything I know about dogs or cats with you.

    Have a nice weekend!

  • Hi Danny!!! I have a cat and a dog, and both are great. Actually, the cat is not mine, but I think he doesn't know that... he sleeps with me, bites me in order to wakes me up to feed him, plays with me. I think the cat is much easier to deal with. The dog is the first one I raised and, as I always had cats, I faced a lot of problems with her. She has a lot of energy and behaves like a big puppy. I watched videos and read a lot about dogs behavior and training, and I was able to make things better. I don't know, it seems dogs are more challenging and also more demanding. But, they are great companians.

    Thanks for the nice blog.

  • I do believe that peaceful people like cats(: Thank you Danny for your nice blog.
  • Dear Keen Learner!  Everything is OK. You didn't hurt me, by no means. And you don't have to apoligize at all. You are a learner and there may be some misunderstandings. It is me who has to beg your pardon as I used an American idiom without explanation. Now you know that "to get someone right" means to understand clearly what he/she means, to get the right idea.

I am really sorry you haven't happened to meet any polite men, yet. How come? Are the men in your country treat ladies badly? You see, in the Western world ladies got their independence long ago and have gained it since. So, if a man is not a gentleman, in the best case he will be "kicked out" of the intelligent society, at least, in my circles. Come to Europe, come to America and you will see I am just a regular man. Hope, you will get me right (smile!)

Have a nice day! I wish you all the best!

  • I love cats. My family loves cats. Stray cats always 'adopted' us, and make us their servants. LOL. Anyway, I just wish I could keep at least one cat, but since I'm a bit 'allergic' to them, I decided not to have one.

  • Interesting blog. I should ask my girls to read your post and watch the clip maybe it can help them to start to love cats, because if they see cats even from far away they would scream. They are so afraid of cats.
  • My dear ladies! Keen Learner! I swear, I haven't had a slightest idea to offend anyone, especially girls! I was raised in such a family where any woman was respected and honored just because she was a woman. When I was a teen, I could say something wrong about girls and if my dad heard that, he punished me leaving without pocket money or taking away my guitar or making me learn some boring things by heart (at least, I thought they were boring that time). But when I grew up, I appreciated his lessons. As to our ladies, they are very independent, all their rights are protected by law and nobody is going to take them away. You see, I have visited the main chatroom a few times and I saw some men being too tough or even rough. It is unbelievable for me as I still ask my wife if I can pay for her dinner.

I think, I've got what the matter is, I mean your reaction,  dear Keen Learner. Honestly, I couldn't sleep this night thinking about it. I was asked to use essential English in EC. So, I have to explain the sentence "If we get them right, we will be on our ground". I mean, if we, men, always understand what our women desire and excpect us to be or to do, we will feel comfortable, in our element. And, in my opinion, a natural element for any man is to make a woman feel happy
