Mind your language!

I observe myself and other people using such a language that hurts others' feelings. Whosoever is superior to anyone, he speaks him scornfully and does not care of his feelings. Human can heal easily from corporal wounds but he cannot heal wounds inflicted by words. This is the same thing a bard mentioned in his Arabic poetry:

جراحات السنان لہا التیام                  ولا یلتام ما جرح اللسان

which means: Injuries of swords have cure but there is no cure of what is wounded by the tongue.

We should think before using harsh words for others. someone proposed a good standard for treating others. That is to put yourself in the place of your listener and image what kind of words to you expect from others. This will help you to control your tongue.

food for thoughts: Do you refine your words while talking to others?

  • Good lesson. Soft words win hearts!

  • I like to quote a para from my blog Virtual World, Virtual Friends, "Edward Bulwer-Lytton coined a very powerful phrase in his play Richelieu; Or the Conspiracy, 1839: "The pen is mightier than the sword". Though in EC world; the virtual world, we do not use pen to convey our thoughts and feelings, I believed the phrase is still hold. Yes, in our virtual world, our keyboard is mightier than the sword. What ever words that we typed can cut deep enough that sometimes some careless words leave a member angry and hurt."

You are right, we should put ourselves in other people's shoes. We should treat people based on how we want other to treat us.
