I didn't write this but absolutely love what this woman wrote. I just wish I knew who the original author was, so that the appropriate credit can goes to her.

It was shared in my Facebook wall, and I thought it depicted the absolute truth faced by women nowadays. To confine to what the media portrayed as an ideal woman. We, women, constantly need to uphold to certain image, which in reality ridiculous to achieve. I have to admit, sometimes I do longed for certain things when looking at those images, especially those models and actresses. I wish I were taller, thinner, lighter skin, flawless skin, whiter teeth, brilliant smiles and etc, etc.

Alas! Reality really sucks. LOL. I do feel grateful, don't get me wrong. But after being bombarded with what media perceived as 'a perfect woman', sometimes even an ordinary woman like me felt a slight undermined and unappreciated. So to read this kind of article it helps to boost my self image and my self worthy. That's why I decided to share it with you guys in here.

The story goes like this:-

A while back, at the entrance of a gym, there was a picture of a very thin and beautiful woman. The caption was "This summer, do you want to be a mermaid or a whale?"

A woman (of clothing size unknown) answered the following way: "Dear people, whales are always surrounded by friends (dolphins, seals, curious humans), they are sexually active and raise their children with great tenderness. They entertain like crazy with dolphins and eat lots of prawns. They swim all day and travel to fantastic places like Patagonia, the Barents Sea or the coral reefs of Polynesia. They sing incredibly well and sometimes even are on cds. They are impressive and dearly loved animals, which everyone defend and admires.

Mermaids do not exist. But if they existed, they would line up to see a psychologist because of a problem of split personality: woman or fish? They would have no sex life and could not bear children. Yes, they would be lovely, but lonely and sad. And, who wants a girl that smells like fish by his side? Without a doubt, I'd rather be a whale. At a time when the media tells us that only thin is beautiful, I prefer to eat ice cream with my kids, to have dinner with my husband, to eat and drink and have fun with my friends.

We women, we gain weight because we accumulate so much wisdom and knowledge that there isn't enough space in our heads, and it spreads all over our bodies. We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated. Every time I see my curves in the mirror, I tell myself: "How amazing am I ?!

I like what this woman wrote. Sometimes we less appreciative of ourselves. We need others to point it out to us. So to all my friends, especially the ladies, just remember this, "We are not fat, we are greatly cultivated".

Cheers!

  • LOL. OHMY! Sewar, I am sure your husband appreciate you, no matter what, but I guess he is being typical men. LOL. You have to tell him that mermaid only exists in fairy tales and he's old enough not to believe in fairy tales. :)

  •      What a wonderful topic!!!!!!!!  My friend, as always I am used to print out your topics and share them weather with my husband or with my students. This topic I shared it with my husband. After he had finished its reading, he looked at me a meaningful look with a cunning smile and said; "Sewar, please don't believe these nonsense. A mermaid always at men's dreams not whales".

Finally my dearest friend, thanks for the smile which you passed it to me through your lovely topic. God bless you my dear.

  • Thank you Mr. Bob. It's been a while since I've heard that idiom.

  • I love this story. That woman "hit the nail on the head". Thanks for sharing and please excuse my idiom ;)
  • Hi Sono.

Thank you for your nice welcome back, though I don't really gone too far from EC or blog, just have less free time as before. Anyway, I am glad your cousin can help you in understanding this 'women's blog' as you called it, though for me it's universal.

Body conscious affecting not only women, but men too. Some men would spend countless hours in gym, spending a lot of money by buying and eating various food supplements, not for the sake of health, but rather for the sake of having 'six pack abs' and building muscles so that they would look.

If nine percent of women said they would ditch their partner to get into shape, I think maybe 8.99% of men would ditch their partners to get into shape too. :) :)

  • Welcome back! Miss noaslpls, I hope so! you'd be better than before. You faded off from the scene of blog section like a mermaid. :D . In fact this blog  can be called women's blog, I did not know much about it.  So I had to taken a bit help from my cousin. :D

I exalt / praises of your critical review or evaluating blog. I wanna add some things about body conscious persons. Yes of-course media made some women to body conscious. .
Body conscious women would swap money, their career. even their families for the perfect figure.
Good health, a high salary and time with family all mattered less than looking good,
Nine per cent of women said they’d ditch a partner to get into shape. :D

Would you agree to my comments ???? see ya!!

  • Hi Lynne,

Hehehe .. you're right. Even in the fairy tales the mermaid always longed to be human. How dull their life! So for sure our life is as colourful as the rainbow.

  • Hi Afroza, it is all we can ask for, "To be the best that we can be". No need to conform anyone else standard or views.

  • Nice story. Thanks for sharing it with us.
Even on tv shows mermaids were given the chance to transform itself into human so that their life story won't run dull... :)

  •  In reality, I love to see what I am..and wanna to be the best to myself!
