Member of the year

The idea is not new. It's about making the member of the year as on the American magazine, Time. Every year, the moderators with the other members of the administration choose the member for the new year. Talents play a great role in making the person unique. Hard working with these special abilities can allow someone to perform well. He or she can be given a reward. We do not mind sharing in that reward. For instance, each member pays a dollar once he or she joins the website. For old members, they can pay too. Whether it's obligatory or optional, one dollar is not a big deal. It can be paid. The reward could be a small amount of money, let's say, three thousand dollars. The amount of the reward can be more than that I have mentioned, along with the logo of the site and a letter of greetings and honor from the administration or the founder.

I cannot tell how this member could be chosen. This is the matter for the members' suggestions and the approval of the administration. I do not know whether this is going to make a controversial hurricane or not. It's just a suggestion and the members with the website authorities can negotiate and finally reach some agreement. Some members may not afford to pay, but one dollar is not that much. I just wanted to say, it cannot be a stone on the way. I hope that the results are going to be positive and our website will be active during the whole year. As for the way how this person is chosen or elected, this is another technical matter for the specialists to see. The matter needs some time to be studied and who knows? The consequences can be fruitful.

  • D'accord mon ami! Thanks Mr. Danny Clark for your nice intervention. It's true that the website is a free website. I thought it would be more exciting when the it includes money. Thanks again!
  • Spasibo Elvina! Thanks for your comment!
  • Hahaha, Frank,  I got your idea!!! Do you want Dara becomes a poor man????!!!!

( Hahaha.... Before one of you guys wants to blame me .... I AM JUST JOKING .... but with a wink in my eyes!!!!)

  •  Hello Dara, I disagree totally with your idea. I don't think we need to change EC from a platform for learners to a platform of a competition ... because that means your proposal. I am here because I want to improve my English skills. I am here (and I believe the most of us, too, ) because we want to exchange and to express our thoughts and opinions.... to discuss about different, varied topics. I am not here to measure my skills with others. I am not here to be assessed. Exactly that means it if you wants us to vote for someone. Election is election ... no matter if you want us to vote for someone in terms of his manner or for his performance or merit here in EC, or not.
I think our goal shouldn't be being a star member. Our goal is to master a language and to treat each other with respect and understanding.
Side effects are allowed and wished. I mean to have a good opportunity to meet people from everywhere around the world.  BUT ....THAT IS NO COMPETITION.... IT IS A CHANCE. NO MONEY CAN REPLACE IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I don't agree to your idea. I think the one of good points of this site is for us to be able to join in easily for free. And I don't have any dollars because dollars don't be used in Japan. I think there are some people like me. Besides, it is difficult to manage the money, isn't it?

  • Sorry Dara, I have to agree with Danny 12 hours ago :)
  • Is anything wrong with the club now? Are you bored, Dara? Bob likes writing poems, Ben likes writing detective stories, Kate enjoys reading all that stuff, and Xavier sings songs in English. The question is: who is the best? I think it's absurd. I don't want to measure talents of my friends. I love them regardless of their talents and language levels. I appreciate their points of view, I'm interested in their cultures. I adore their photos. I don't want to compare and weigh them all the time. I can learn something from them, and I can, perhaps, teach somebody something. And I'm sure, every person is unique even without visible talents.

And there's one more thing. We can value the club only after being its member for some time. But when a person is only making his/her mind about joining, the matter of money can prevent them from doing it. Personally, I wouldn't have paid anything, I would have given up the idea of registering, because I didn't know anything about MEC then.

Sorry, I'm not a diplomat, I speak straightforward.

  • The idea of giving a reward it's great!, with the reward should be sought alternatives.

maybe doing a survey may get more suggestions

  • My dear friend Dara, it is the first time when I fully disagree with your idea. EC is so attractive for learners because it is free in the general understanding of the word. We are free to join or leave it, we are free to express our ideas, we are free from obligations and it makes this site so unique and likable! Sure, one dollar is nothing, but the idea of using money in this free space is wrong. EC is not a charitable fund, it is the free English speaking world for those who want to learn and/or practice, who want to forget about their daily problems, who want to find some friends sharing their ideas, who want to be a part of modern world. I am sorry, my friend, your idea is so wrong!

  •  As for me I can't give a right opinion of this idea because I don't know anything about it.
