Meaning of Life - Writing Challenge

Meaning of Life

I don’t think life has any meaning. It’s only us who has meaning and it is our responsibility to bring happiness in our life. There is a famous saying “Do live and let others live” .In this modern era we see people fighting each other for existence and their thirst doesn't stop even after they achieve what they wanted. Their search for happiness continues until their last breath & they die as losers who haven’t ever experienced happiness in life.

I believe happiness comes from our mind. If you can find happiness in small things you do then you are worth living. Everything in earth has short life span & in this limited period finding yourself is the biggest challenge you ever have to face in life however people are more into satisfying their physical needs.

I would say happiness comes from sharing & serving others. Let’s look back into our history – We have lots of freedom fighters, they had spent their whole life for others & generation after generation people remembers them. They are the real heroes who had actually lived or showed the essence of life.

Below I have written a small story about fire fly

I began my life as a fire fly

No one noticed me during day

I illuminated myself during the night for others

But no one cared me; everyone tried to catch me

They tried to scare me even though I did well to them

One day I lose one of my wings

But I avoided the pain & tried to fly

But I couldn’t, the fear was scarier than the pain

Later I collapsed myself into the mystery of death

When I opened my eyes, I would see myself in some other world

Gatekeeper unlocked the gate & gave me a warm welcome

They gave me new wings and opened me into the world of happiness

The thought of no one to harm me here is sweeter

My family was awaiting me; they hugged me tightly & it was a glorious reunion

Though I was a loser in my previous life; I’m a winner in my eternal life

Thank you my god for letting me know the essence of my life

You gave me life; I lived for others

They tortured me; but you supported me

They tried to catch me; but you saved me

Later you called me back & I reached here

You gave me new life & I started to fly

What I’m trying to say is that if you didn’t achieve anything in your life after all your hardships don’t feel bad for yourself as success is yet to come, believe in god & do well for others.

Enjoy your life before it ends. Life is beautiful

P.S - Friends this is my first attempt. Please don't hesitate to put your comments and suggestions after reading.

Thanks,

Niki

  • Thanks. Teacher Dara it is interesting for me.
  • Thank you for your explanation, Niki. I think I understand what you are trying to say. However, I still do not agree with that first statement because a blank paper is more valuable than the one which has scribbles all over it. We buy blank papers because they serve a purpose.
  • Hi Ohnie,

Thank you for your valuable suggestion – It’s a good point you have pointed out here. I think everyone will be feeling the same after going through my post. I will try my maximum to clear your doubts:

I don’t think life has any meaning. It’s only us who has meaning and it is our responsibility to bring happiness in our life – “Here i tried to explain importance of humanity. Life becomes meaningful only when we value it otherwise it is just a blank paper, which has no meaning”. (Explanation – “Everyone will be having their own set of goals in life but the problem is that they will try to take the shortest route. After reaching the pinnacle when they turn back & couldn’t see any of their loved ones then it would be the deeply remorseful situation they ever have to face in their life”. Here they lived for their monetary benefits; they never lived for themselves & finally ended up as a loser. Here comes the value of humanity”) .Hope it clears

Thank you my god for letting me knows the essence of my life – Here I tried to explain those who have actually lived their life or showed how meaningful a life can be. When you start valuing yourselves you start valuing others. Life becomes meaningful when you start sharing.

In short I have tried to explain importance of mankind in our society :):)

  • Thanx niki for participating ...your writing style is very good!!!
  • Wonderful, such a great writer you're please carry on

  • Beautiful story Niki. I am going to read your other blog now :)
  • If you can find happiness even with small thing, as you said, even in your mind, life is indeed meaningful. Small things can be meaningful, rather than just aiming for big things in life. Small things can be important, no matter what. That's life. It's meaningful in every nook and cranny, in every single small things.

  • I agree with the comments of Ohinie.

  • Good blog, Niki, especially for a first timer.   Thank you!

But I think there's irony in what you've written.  These statements, "I don’t think life has any meaning" and "Thank you my god for letting me know the essence of my life." contradict each other.

You expressed that you think life is meaningless (which I do not agree), then the rest of your writing tells us about happiness, freedom fighters and the essence/importance of life (and I fully agree with them).  What seems ironic about all this is that you find life important but not meaningful.  I do not understand how something important can hold no meaning at the same time.  Because as for me, these words (important/meaningful) complement each other.

So why then do we fight for life if it is something meaningless?  Why do we try to protect even the unborn babies if there is nothing to life?  Why do we try to save dying people from death if life holds no meaning at all?  How would we describe DEATH if we don't know the meaning of LIFE?  I only have one answer to these questions.  Life is important.  And its importance is what gives purpose to life itself.  According to you, "It’s only us who has meaning..."  In my humble opinion, it is US individually and as a group who define the kind of meaning we want to give our life by the way we live it and by the price tag we attach to ourselves and others, be it right or wrong, high or low.  And in the end, it's not really about what's written in our eulogy that will best describe our life but it's the influence we made to other people in our lifetime, even the footprints...as well as the buttprints we left behind.  (^,^)
