Let me share one interesting tradition

I would like to share one old tradition we still keep and even though today it is Labour day there is something more we celebrate.

Today, since it is May 1st we celebrate here in the Czech republic the DAY OF LOVE.

You can call it the second Valentine but I would kill you if you dared to mix it up :-D

I love this tradition from many reasons. Firstly – I think love and the month May go together. The Earth is ruled by the planet Venus – named after godess of love. Secondly - if you look around you, you can see blossom trees, flowers, feel the warm air and can listen to the singing birds. This is the atmosphere to celebrate the love!! (not frozen in the February – ehm, hope people who adore Valentine won´t kill me, I am just simply patriot.)

Another reason is the way we celebrate it. A boy should kiss a girl under the blossom cherry tree or birch tree. If nobody kiss a girl, according to the old saying – girl will „get dried“ in one year. Well, as for me, this year I can dream of it. I suffer right now from the soar throat :-D Sooo guys, in one year I really don´t know what is going to be with me!!!

Well, it means that she wont stay fresh, young anymore. She will end up like old lief - dry up. It is just saying, so no need to take it literally. Plus , in the end my husband kissed me :) thank you all for your nice comments

If nobody kisses a girl, should she kiss another one, I'm wondering :). I agree with Anele, what is the meaning of "dried" in this context. Thanks for sharing your lovely tradition.

Can any guy kiss you when you stand under the blossom cherry tree? It looks similar to the Christian's tradition of kissing under the mistletoe during holiday season.

By the way, labor day in my place is observed with a long parade of workers of different sects and agencies. Thanks for sharing your tradition, Luzzi!

It's amusing to think that a girl will get "dried" if nobody kisses her, haha. I wonder what is the meaning of this!
