A ryhme came into my mind this morning on my way to work when I saw a crow eating something. I want to share it with you:
KAGA SUB TUN KHAIYYO CHUN CHUN KHAIYYO MASS
Crow all body eat peck peck eat flash
(Bird’s eating)
PER DU NAINA MUT KHAIYYO INHAIN PIYA MILAN KI AAS
But two eyes do not eat they have beloved meet of hope
First this is not pure Urdu. This is Purabi (Urdu) mostly spoken in western (or may be eastern) part of India – in villages. If you want to listen to Purabi Urdu look for Dilip Kumar’s film “Ganga – Jamna” In this film Dilip Kumar’s speaks Purabi Urdu.
Explanation of the Rhyme:
A village girl is waiting for her beloved who has gone to the city to earn money. She comes on the mountain to see the path through which the beloved has to come. She is waiting for him for many years. Now she is dying. She sees a crow comes near her. She knows why the crow has come. She addresses the crow and says:
O CROW WHEN I DIE EAT ALL OF MY BODY. PECK EACH AND EVERY PARTICLE OF MY FLASH
BUT DO NOT EAT MY EYES. THERE IS STILL AND WILL ALWAYS BE HOPE TO SEE MY BELOVED.
