Jane Austen is an English novelist who wrote six wonderful novels. Pride & Prejudice, which what this article is about, Mansfield Park, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion, Emma, & Sense and Sensibility

Pride & Prejudice is a story from real life about two young people fall in love and marry. It’s happy ending, but how did they met, fall in love, and end up marring each other?? Well, this is what the story is about. Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth Bennet belong to different worlds, how did they find each other?? Mr. Darcy is a man of wealth; he’s very rich and so good-looking as well, so is Elizabeth. She is not rich though, but the smartest one among her sisters and her mother has never realized this. All what keeps the mother busy is finding a husband for her daughters before it’s too late. Not any man, but a wealthy one. Yet, her father Mr. Bennet is a wise man indeed. He cares so much about making their daughters content, fulfilled, and happy; especially Lezzy for he is able to see her mind’s beauty

Elizabeth met Darcy in a dance party which was one of the strongest means to mach- make back then in the 19th Century. Dancing in Jane Austen’s time is like Facebook today; you can imagine what kinds of wonders it can make. When she has first seen him, she has said what everyone says once they see Mr. Darcy: Stuck up. Later on, she meets a handsome gentleman, Mr. whekham who tells her bad things about Mr. Darcy, that creates hatred or most likely a prejudice against Mr. Darcy. At the end of the day, Lezzy discovers that all what she has been told by Mr. Wheckham were lies when he runs away with her 15 little sister, and makes a scandal.  However, Mr. Darcy saves the Bennet’s reputation secretly, using his wealth to pay for Mr. Wheckham to marry her naïve sister. Above all, Elizabeth knows what Mr. Darcy has done for her by coincidence.

Eventually, Mr. Darcy writes a letter to Mrs. Elizabeth, expressing how he feels about her. As a result, the prejudice Elizabeth has had turns into infatuation; they have married and lived happily ever after.

I’ve chosen this novel in particular for few reasons. First, Jane Austen’s self contained life often seems reflected in her novels. I love when a writer can see her/ his self through the lines. Probably, this is why there is a character called Jane in her novels. Besides, she has never married although she had been asked to, but she said no. I think that’s why all her novels describe all kinds of relationships that have ended up with marriage. But have never discussed marriage or what it comes with it.  Maybe, Jane Austen wants women to seek for what make them really happy because, after all, all women are filled, but are they fulfilled??? Plus, I’ve always loved the way Jane Austen let men, in her novels, express themselves. Nothing seems more irresistible than writing a very good letter

  • Amazing Noaslpls!!

me too, I totally agree with you. becuase we, Women & Men, experience things differently. things will never be the same ^^ but we can use these wonderful stories Austen wrote to understand our own stories..

  • I read her novels years ago, when I was a school kid and still didn't understand fully the meaning of life and love. LOL. But all her novels managed to capture my imagination, and made me painted Mr Darcy as a dashing young man. A typical hero of a novel - tall, dark and handsome. LOL.
