Hello my MyEC friends,
I'm reading the book "Daddy Long Legs" by Jean Webster. In the first chapter of the book
"Blue Wednesday", there is a sentence :
"She could not picture the daily routine of those other human beings who carried on their lives undiscommoded by orphans."
I searched for the meaning of the word "UNDISCOMMODED" everywhere, but I couldn't find it anywhere.
If any of you knows its meaning, please tell me. I'll be very thankful to you.
Thanks a million in advance! ^_^

Thank you very much Anele, for dropping by. You're right that they have explained the word clearly.
Thank you so much again for asking, dear friend! ^_^
Thanks a lot, James shin.
I highly appreciate your help and after reading the explanation written by you, I don't think that I'll ever forget the meaning of "undiscommoded" in my life.
Thanks a again for your priceless help!
Hi, nida!
Firstly, you need to separate this word 'undiscommded' as to 'un' & 'discomode'.
'un' means 'not','the reverse of','a lack of', and 'discommode' means 'Cause (someone) trouble or inconvenience' in the dictionary. However, there is a mathematical principle in this case; Negative + Negative = Positive (Affirmative). Hence, un (negative, itself), discommode (has a negative meaning as above). When you think of them together adopting the mentioned principle, it becomes 'positive' but not directly taking the meaning as positive ('convenient', 'comfort' & so on), so it's more like 'not discomforted', 'not inconvenient'
@ Ryszard, thanks a million for your kind help.
Your explanation is really helpful. The translation you provided seems to be the best one in context of the rest of the sentence.
I highly appreciate your kind help! Thank you so much again.
@ Nebia, Thanks a lot for the explanation. Now I understand what it is.
I myself had a little bid idea about the meaning of the word. But as I didn't find it in the dictionary so decided to take help from you people because I wanted to know the exact meaning of this word.
I think it means that there lives were not easy as they were orphens.
I think the word was borrowed from French which means uncomfortable or not easy.
I hope it is ok.
