I'M I GUILTY

I tried to conceal under the darkness,

He tried to unveil the darkness,

In dim light I saw his face glow,

In deep anguish I heard his voice low.

His image was reflected by the light,

I was ripped apart by the fright,

His whispers wedged my throat,

His gawk smacked my heart.

He extended his hand for capturing me,

I prayed The Almighty for protecting me,

My soul quivered with 'his' brightness

I stretched my hand but bled with sharp edge

I regained my inner strength and stabbed him to death.

I’m a GIRL, I want to live...

P.S - This is first time I have penned a poem, please let me know your feedback

  • STRANGER, I understand the confusion in your eyes.  Please allow me to walk you through Niki's poem based on my personal interpretation with added details based on my imagination, LOL!  Let's call the girl Jill and the guy Jack.  (NIKI, you are welcome to correct me if there's any part here that you think I misunderstood.)

I tried to conceal under the darkness - It was supposed to be a beautiful evening.  The moon was magnificently glowing, casting its light through Jill's window.  Jill peacefully fell asleep in her big room.  Alone in the house, she heard strange footsteps that woke her up and frightened her senses.  Though caught up in fear, Jill carefully pulled her bedside drawer looking for any tool that she could use to shield herself from the intruder.   Though lost in confusion, she still managed to quietly walk into her closet to secretly hide from the unknown.

He tried to unveil the darkness - Jack whose hobby is to trespass into people's houses at night successfully found his way through the darkness into Jill's room.

In dim light I saw his face glow - In the closet, Jill holds her breath while peeping through the keyhole, attempting to identify his uninvited guest.  As Jack walked across the room and stood by the window, Jill clearly saw his face bathed by the moonlight, and the smirk he made as if he knew that Jill is watching him.

In deep anguish I heard his voice low - Then in Jack's low yet deafening voice...loud enough to make every single cell in her body tremble...he called out for her, promising not to hurt her.

His image was reflected by the light - Jack impatiently walked around the room.  His image becomes more and more apparent to Jill.  His intentions became more and more vivid.  He came to disrespect her body, to torture her soul, all for the thrill and self-glorification.

I was ripped apart by the fright - She tried to hold herself together although every passing second seems endless to bear.  She tried to stay as calm as possible for him not to realize her existence in that room.  But she knew she gotta be be kidding herself.  Her heart stopped for a brief moment as his intruder forcefully opened the closet door.  It was like part of her was ripped apart as that door...the only thing in this world that keeps her safe from him...opened up to expose her.

His whispers wedged my throat - Like a fish stuck in a frozen lake, she was unable to move a muscle.  Her mind was screaming for help but his presence creeped into her being that she was unable to find her voice.  She wanted to scream to the top of her lungs but couldn't as if something was stuck into her throat.  The sound of his whispers poke her in great and numbing pain.

His gawk smacked my heart.  -  Like a bird who found its prey, Jack viciously stared at Jill in great awe.  Jill felt helpless.  Every stupid look he threw at her drained her sanity.  His cunning gazes smacked her heart.  She felt like her dignity dropped on the floor and was trampled upon by this evil man.

He extended his hand for capturing me - Jack's patience was wearing thin while his excitement was growing stronger.  The predator was ready to devour his catch.

I prayed The Almighty for protecting me - With a broken heart and spirit, Jill managed to get back to her senses.  In her deepest despair and agony, she found herself pleading to the Almighty for help.

My soul quivered with 'his' brightness - Indeed, she found power in prayer.  She witnessed HIS brightness in the darkest hour of her life.  She regained her strength even in her weakest moment.

I stretched my hand but bled with sharp edge - Jack whose only talent is to scare vulnerable women like Jill, did not realize what he got himself into.  Underestimating others is what only stupid people do.  As Jack offered his unwelcomed arms to Jill, she reciprocated to this generosity by stretching out her hands to him while holding on to a pair of scissors she grabbed from her bedside drawer before hiding inside the closet.

I regained my inner strength and stabbed him to death. - Fears was replaced by immense anger.  Desire to live gave her the greater will to fight.   She won't back down.   She knew that her tears won't bring back her morality once she allows him to take it away from her.  There was no one to depend on but herself.  She closed her eyes and in that brief moment, she gathered every strength hiding within her and stabbed him with all her might in the abdomen.  He fell to the floor, paralyzed.  She did not intend to kill him, all she wanted was to be able to safely run away from him, go to the police and make him pay for what he did to her according to the law.   But he bled to death and died in front of her.   No doubt, she took his life in one stroke, but he also left a deep wound in her that will scar her for a lifetime.

I’m a GIRL, I want to live... - Jill is a girl who wants to live, just like any other person in this world.  When dignity is taken away from her, she will no longer be the girl she wanted to be, no matter how the world sympathizes or console her.  She knew that good people will try to understand her but there are also those who will always choose to condemn her.  And the world will forget who the real victim was.  ***The end***
