I am to a deaf student. I need your help!

Dear friends! I've started teaching a deaf guy. He is a smart, four year student of the National Technical University and his English level is high enough. I can teach him grammar and vocabulary , he has very good memory and skills. He can read from lips in Russian and knows Russian language of gestures a little. But the idea is for him to read from lips in English. He needs some supplementary learning video with subtitles and a person whose lips he can see. I hope you have got the main idea. I will be very thankful for your help. Here is his email:ukikansinin@gmail. comHis name is Sasha. You can also use my email or send me messages in EC.Thank you all in advance! I am proud to be a member of this Club and to be your friend!

  • Two thoughts come to mind that might help. 1) SKYPE if both people have this free program loaded onto their computers, and both have mikes and video cams, it might work. Sometimes the transmission is not the greatest but might be worth a try. 2) If you have a webcam, and you can create powerpoint type slides, you can create a lesson in voicethread that might work. Have you ever used voicethread? There is a bit of a learning curve but it might be worth it. You can browse thru for free at http://voicethread.com  , click on Browse, and search on "deaf" for some examples. Some other examples using sign language can be found at http://voicethread.com/share/29356/  and http://voicethread.com/?#u5567.b100602.i513062 (also lip reading) and http://voicethread.com/?#u5567.b232108.i1425132 (signing and lip reading).  I will also email this to Sasha.
  • For now perhaps a lending library may have videos.
  • Hi Tanya, you are doing a great job! But I'm afraid I can't help him in this regard.

I hope other people will definitely help me!

Best wishes for you and your student.
