Labor law in Japan regulate the time workers can work, which is within 40 hours and are given a day off in a week. Most companies decide their employee's work time as eight hours per day, five days per week. However managers and workers who have particular skills are excluded in this rule because they are allowed to determine their own work time.
In the last ten years, there has been a problem whereby employers or managers make their employees work more hours than specified by the law. There have been severe cases where they have made their workers work more than hundred hours in a month. Some workers have killed themselves due to tiredness caused by exhaustion. So we and the mass media are very angry with the offender companies. The bereaved families also accused them of causing too much stress on their workers who killed themselves. Thanks to raising their voice , the situation appears to be getting a bit better, but it has not improved quite enough yet.
Many companies in Japan face the problem of a shortage of workers because of the decreasing birthrate and aging population. But just because of that, companies must not break the law. By the way, how many hours do you or can you work per week?

Hello, Sandra. Thank you for your comment. I agree with "The governments are the accomplice of the big companies". A party in Japan that stands for employers more than workers has come to power for a long time, so employers has had advantage.

I heard labor unions in the U.S have strong power, but it seems to have changed. As you say, workers need the time in which they can enjoy themselves, spend their family and rest, other than work. Workers are not slaves and should gain appropriate rights. So it is important for workers that labor unions has power.
@Zivi... thank you for your explanation. of course the fight for good standards at work is their goal, but when that fight becomes into strict rules against the company, sometimes small ones are unable to keep on generating income and wealth. At the end all we're in the same boat and we should row in the same direction, otherwise we'll be shooting ourself in the foot. The more a company works, the better benefits every worker will obtain. I,m not sure to have caught your whole reply but regarding to worktime no one is obliged to spend more than forty hours a week here, if he/she does is their own decision and he will get the collective bargaining agreement.
The revolution you say should be addressed to the greedy ones formally dressed in silk tie who control the markets, I guess the CEO's you referred, but not to the local business network.

Hi tam, gosh I came to get into curiousity about 100 hours worktime per week. Though 100 hours overtime per week is already a huge challenge as it means 25 hours overtime per week. I know, also here ppl do that being promised the shortening of their worker´s lifetime. But guess what: since they changed it into this with the whole the vast majority of workers are young. As soon as the staff comes to the point of pre-retirement those big concerns get insolvent - means they don´t have any financial resources any more to pay their cheated staff the pre-retirement. Once a new driver of such a company has taken the business they reemploy their old staff over timework agencies or make their own tarifs -as described in the former reply to Estanis-.And CEO´s and stock owners get richer and richer. But it are few only.

hi Estanis, the goal of workers union is not closing any company. Would be silly anyways. But their goal is ot fight for good standards of works and salaries. Before the 1980s they had huge power indeed caused by laws basing of german basic laws. Since the early 1980s till 2010 every government cut a bit of basic laws for the sake of economic lobbyism. Plus, the governments here, quite particularly since 2005, forced the option for several unions on one job field. That made workers argue another and get seperated so that they differed in their points of view. Addionally opposite to former times employers had to attend employers unions which were the partner of the worker unions in trade disputes. Contracts negotiated had to be followed by either employer´s club as well as worker´s union. This is no longer instructed. The governments -under influence of Lobbyists- did it with full intend in order to weaken the unions power. They also implanted and supported -under the influence of Lobbyists- the so called time work. Timeworker do the same job as full job worker do, but their tarif is much lower. Particularly huge companies faked miserable financil situations and fired full job workers skipped their jobs and finally gave these jobs to lower paid and lower rights timeworker. They even hired the same staff just employed by time work agancies and made huge and huger profit on that.
Nowadays, there are politicians thinking of changing laws again to a higher worktime of every single worker. That is pure beefdung as you yourself stated. The more the single work does his work, the less other workers are needed. And that leads to the situation that people have to live on welfare. Those people of course are blamed lazy bones and get sanctioned on every possible event.
To me this situation is irreational.
