How can I improve my English?

Many people say they don’t know very much about the English language, don’t have interest for it and don’t like it for many reasons. Indeed, there are points which can turn the English learning a little boring, weak or desmotivating, but I would like to share 10 tips to help you learn or improve it in a fun and interesting way.

1. Think about why you would like to learn English (to get a job, pass in a contest, travel, talk to native speakers etc.).2. Set a goal. How far would you like to go? What level would you like to achieve in your studies? Do you want to learn to speak, write, read…?3. Enrol in a good language school. If it’s not possible, create situations in which you can use English. Look for someone who can give you support, like a friend who is in a higher level or a private teacher.4. Look for opportunities to learn. Listen to music, watch movies, play video games, chat on the Internet ... all in English!5. Use social networks and communicate in English. The network My English Club (http://my.englishclub.com) can give you great moments of spontaneous learning and communicating with various people, from students to native speakers.6. Write down new words and expressions. We always find a different word on the Internet, books, magazines etc. Enjoy it!7. Find a study partner. Someone who is willing to talk to you in English anywhere, exchange messages, and emails.8. Separate always a little time to study (at least two or three times a week). Learn a little every day!9. When you start your studies, ask yourself: What will I learn today? And in the end, ask yourself: what did I learn today?10. The keyword is: PRACTICE!Remember: your success will depend on your efforts and dedication!

  • Hi, Joyce!

    Thanks for this blog!

I think I could or should have firstly given you my own thought of the 10 tips for us to remember in learning & improving our English, which you've written on this blog, if I read this first before I saw your latest one. However, it seems to be similarly related to my comment left on your other blog. On the contrary of my comment, as for me, this second language of learning & improving seems to depend on your environmental motivation, individual circumstances in place, personal efforts with determination & hard work, and plus time for its continuation in having consequences.

So please also visit my blog (http://my.englishclub.com/profiles/blogs/some-dilemmas-amp-future).
  • Thanks, Walid!
I agree with you. There are different ways to learn and each person has to find out what is best for him/herself. It's very nice to exchange ideas, let's share!
    Take care,
    Joyce.
  • Yes...of course, Deuce! These are only some tips to help someone, not rules. =)
  • Thank you...but remember one thing...everybody is unique and has his own way for better learning and everybody should practise his own scheme of learning :))
  • You're welcome, Nida! =)
