The human eye is unique compared to that of other animals in the world! Hence, from the beginning, human obtains a special privilege to differentiate the beauty of nature in various angles. At the early stages of social development process, the self-awareness was applied as one of the most useful skills to identify some useful as well as important plants in the environment. Later, step by step, human was able to domesticate different plants species in the kingdom of plants. In this whole expedition, a leading role was played by the human eye (eye estimation) in order to make this process stronger.

In general, people are much more interested in flowers of plants/trees. Actually, the flower is the reproductive organ of plants/trees. And hence, the attraction of the flower is very important for the pollination process. The eye-catching appearance and nectar are distinctive characteristics of a flower to attract pollinators such as insects and birds. Further, the flowers could be differentiated in various forms to get them pollinated based on diverse environmental conditions. However, the story of ornamental plants is different to a certain extent. In fact, as a rule of nature, all flowering plants (higher plants/ Angiosperms) bear flowers as a basic unit for reproduction. In the case of lower plants (Gymnosperms), which produce naked seeds, it is impossible to see typical floral structures similar to flowering plants.

Of ornamental plants, the prominent means of propagation would be the vegetative parts or foliage parts. Actually, there is a special affinity among people towards ornamental plants due to the off-type nature ornamental plants/trees dominate. In the modern world, it has been able to develop (or improve) a number of different varieties of ornamental plants with the advancement of the technology. For example, some draft polyscias varieties are very popular indoor plants at present. The wild varieties of different plants with uncommon foliage would be used as original forms in order to make new exceptional forms. The nature of human is to accept something unusual, so the demand for off-type plants is never ever decreased.  Many horticultural laboratories all over the world produce a larger number of ornamental plants with the support of R&D (Research and Development) processes as a continuous cause of action.

At present, people are rushing all the time due to the rat-race in the society, so most of them receive a little time to interact with the Environment/nature. According to the WHO, more than 450 million people suffer from mental disorders in our world. Persistent socio-economic-political and ecological pressures, rapid social changes, social exclusion, human rights violations and so on are omnipresent in the globe.  Within such a reality, one may think about what a plant could do really to enhance the standard of this world! Yes, it is right on one hand, but a pot plant( indoor plant) in a home brings the blessing of nature  at all times. If you arrange a few indoor plants inside your home considering the internal space during the day time, it adds many advantages to all in your home. Some people place/arrange ferns inside the home, but the spores of ferns would be allergic to humans, and it could pave the way for asthma (at the beginning whizzing condition) after some time. You should be able to choose right indoor plants based on the interior aspects of your home. Never place dark pot plants in dark corners and also select contrast foliages to give an imaginary dept to the walls on the back.  If your area is fully covered after shutting down windows, fan-lights and so on, please keep indoor plants out during the night time. The plant life functions both the respiration and photosynthesis for survival, hence it continues respiration (catabolic reaction) during night but stops photosynthesis (anabolic reaction). In this context, the CO2 level-in could be gone up during night time. However, living with plants is really pleasurable!

Good Luck!

  • Dear M.Adaway,

    THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Yes, you are right! Indoor plants make our homes/offices more gorgeous. As you have mentioned, it is necessary to pay a special attention in caring for these plants. Adding too much water creates some unnecessary problems especially, some disorders with roots and fungal diseases. Before watering, just examine with care whether it needs to water or not! If the moisture content is still OK (check it by just touching the soil in the pot) don’t water it. On the other hand, the water should not be stagnated inside the pot, and you have to fill the pot with the right soil mixture. In the case of fertilizing, you could use some slow-releasing fertilizers (or foliage applications) available in the market or at times, a few grains of Urea fertilizer {CO (NH2)2} is more than enough (please don’t add a larger quantities). The pH of the soil is also of importance for a plant to grow well. If used foliage applications, please wash the foliage with pure water after giving sometime for the plant to absorb the nutrients from the application. You could use a small flower-basket for washing plants. Morning light intensity (around 9/10AM) is very import for a plant while the light intensity at about 2.00PM is very hostile. After sometime, you have to transfer plants to new pots because of the pot-bounding phenomenon. I have mentioned here a few details useful!

    Good Luck!
