The other day my daughter came to me and said that she had a crush on a boy who lived in our neighborhood. I asked her to tell me who is he; she started talking about him.  I said her that I knew him. She asked me if he was attractive. I replied yes he was. She continued talking about him and that maybe when she was older they could marry. It made me laugh and I said:” sweetie you are still so young besides he is older than you.” She said: dad is older than you too.

I told her that when I was at her age I had a crush on a boy who was our neighbor. She was surprised and told me why I had never talked about him. I said it was not that much important, I was a teenager back then. When I grew older I was even wondering why on earth I had liked him, anyway as we grew older our opinions changed. Then she asked me to describe the guy that I had crush on. I told her that the guy she liked was more handsome than the guy I had liked, then we burst into laughing.  As we were laughing I was wondering when my little girls had grown up.

  • Very well described the situation.  You are a good parent (mother) Setareh.

  • Beautiful post, dear Setareh! Well done!

I liked the way you handled the "crush" situation without crushing your daughter's feelings. Smart mom!

  • I replied yes he was.
    I replied:"Yes, he was."

It made me laugh and I said:” sweetie you are still so young besides he is older than you.”
It made me laugh and I said:”Sweetie, you are still too young. Besides, he is older than you.”

  • A wonderful story.

  •  Hi setareh!  I'm always drawn to your posts because they give me snippets of memories with my own children as well!  Teenage years are so clumsy and yet they feel so deeply only to realize like you that on the hindsight they would later exclaim,  how on earth did I ever fall for this guy?!? :)  Let us cherish these moments because as what you say, they grow up so fast.  Lovely post! :)

  • That's so lovely to read, Dear Setareh...

how kind of you as a mother, your daughter must be love you so much. Don't worry, she would be growing up well under your care attention ;)

  • Great! Interesting story!

I've corrected some mistakes in the first paragraph for you (the second paragraph is perfect):

The other day my daughter came to me and said that she had a crush on a boy who lived in our neighborhood. I asked her to tell me who is he (he was) (reported question, not direct speech, so the word -order); she started talking about him.  I said  (said to) her that I knew him. She asked me if he was attractive. I replied yes he was. She continued talking about him and that maybe when she was older they could marry. It made me laugh and I said:” sweetie (Sweetie) you are still so young besides he is older than you.” She said: (") dad (Dad) is older than you too.(")

Note that you should captitalize the first word in the quotation marks, for example: She said, "That's great!"

Hope you get it! Keep it up!
