Did You Know - What Day Is Today?

Did you know that every day there would be something to celebrate? I got to know some peculiar celebration days while listening to a local radio when I was driving to the office. I used to listen to those peculiar celebration without taking much stock of it. But then I realised that it seemed we always have something to celebrate and try to remember those dates. Photo was taken from www.ccac.com.au.

However, in this blog I just want to share selected few of those days, otherwise my blog would be an endless blog. LOL. Some of those days are totally silly, but some of them are very meaningful.

Did you know that 2nd January is a 'Happy Mew Year For Cats Day'? According to the www.examiner.com, Happy Mew Year For Cats Day was created by Thomas and Ruth Roy. I guess I don't have to explain much about why we really should have a day to celebrate the greatness of cats. There's a saying that, 'After all, don’t you know that cats rule and dogs drool?'. LOL. However, since this 'Happy Mew Year For Cats Day' is copyrighted, I don't think many people can enjoy it without having a thought whether they are breaking the copy right law. What a pity!

Did you know that for every first Wednesday of April has been earmarked as the Day of Hope? According to www.childhelp.org, it was initiated by Sara O'Meara and Yvonne Fedderson in 1999. Both of them founded Childhelp and initiated Day of Hope to highlight the suffering millions of children because of abuse and neglects. Though it's hard to imagine any normal human beings can abuse a helpless child, but this Day Of Hope is in fact trying to remember these hidden statistics of which sometimes purposely being ignored. Abuse comes in many forms, either physical, mental or sexual. It's our duty to help those in our own community as well as throughout the world, that are suffering this kind of abuse or neglect.

Did you know that 30th July is my birthday? LOL. Well, it is also the Cheesecake Day. It's no wonder I love cheesecake. Cheesecake is one of tastiest desserts. Usually it's made from cream cheese, sugar, eggs and vanilla, though sometimes some other flavours were added in such as strawberry and key lime.

Did you know that 28th September 2014 was a 'Ask A Stupid Question Day'? Yes! It really does exists. According to holidayinsights.com, teachers in the USA created this special day in order to encourage children to ask questions and not feeling stupid or ridicule. Though in reality, 'Ask A Stupid Question Day' should falls on every 28th September, sometimes it will be celebrated on the last day of school day in the USA.

Did you know that 10th December is the the Human Rights Day? In 1950, the UN General Assembly declared that every 10th December should be the Human Rights Day in order bring the attention of the world to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights as the common standard of achievement for all peoples and all nations. This day is basically trying to promote the awareness of human rights issues, such as democracy, discrimination, education and environment, to the world. It also trying to highlight the effort of United Nations to improve human rights conditions globally. United Nations has listed human rights issues in its site. Click the link to read the list.

So, what day is yours?

  • WOW .. I hope Malaysia have such day too. We, Malaysians are getting unfit and obese society.

  • This year Monday, October 13th is Sports Day in Japan. It is a national holiday and I will have a long weekend. I like holidays when everyone is off work.

  • Expector Smith, I just got to know about such day when I heard about it in the radio. I like to think there's no such thing as 'a stupid question'. :D :D :D :D They may be silly, but they are not stupid. LOL

  • Great! Thanks for sharing.

I've never heard there's such a day as "Ask A Stupid Qestion Day", but you might find this blog interesting: Try to ask a stupid question.

  • Hi Tara, to tell you the truth, I was thinking to put the 'Ask a Stupid Question Day' in the Discussion Forum. But then, as usual, I can't stop writing about other things, and it became a blog. LOL

  • Fantastic! I can't believe we all just missed "Ask a Stupid Question Day". This would have been a fun activity for the Discussion Forums!

  • LOL Luci .. what a Humbug Day, huh! This reminds me of the Dickens' story about the Ghost of the past, current and future. (I can't remember what's the title of that story). Thanks for sharing that information. :) :) :)

  • Hi Shahab Naimat, you are right. A sensible person will celebrate father's day, mother's day and teacher's day daily, but not everyone is as sensible as you. Some of us need to be gently reminded of certain day. Some of us even can't remember their parents' anniversary, their own anniversary or their own children's birthday. Life would be simpler if we can remember everything without someone reminding us about it.

  • Well, I knew about it and yes, some are lil bit silly but I like this idea! I looked up one funny day .. 21st December is called Humbug Day and it should remind ppl of not being stressed before Xmas, to enjoy the atmosphere :D will try not to forget about it this year :)
  • Why do we need special days for celebrating things? A sensible person celebrates father's day, mother's day and teacher's day etc daily.
