Come to Croatian Island KRK with me :-)

Would you like to travel with me for a while again? No problem, guys, just enjoy the atmosphere and relax while reading my blog :-) This time I will take you to the Croatian Island called KRK, where I spent one week with my family. It is one of the biggest Croatian islands, situated in the northern part of Croatia in Adriatic sea connected with the mainland by the bridge (btw if you are curious just google Krk Bridge).

It is almost 860km far away from the city I live in and we went there by car. Oh yeahhh….now I can imagine your surprised faces :D Whaaaaaat? By car? Haha, here in Europe it is totally common to travel like this and many people do so. Luckily we have good highways, so it isn't big deal travel safe and fast. Well.. finally after many many hours, we reached our destination Baška /Bashka/ at 6 pm, totally dead as it was during our journey 35 degrees! Baška is the pearl of northern part of Croatia as it has very beautiful almost 2 km long peblle-sandy beach and is situated in the valley, surrounded by the rocky mountains and pines. Well, no words can describe such beauty so let me show you my picture I took while climbing the mountains, where I little bit injured my leg! :-)

You see? I didn't tell you any lies, location of this touristic destination attracts many people from Europe and that is why there is one disadventage, which might distract some oversensitive tourists. What is it? :-D Well… like I told you the beach is very beautiful – so yeah many many people have to see it and spend their time there, which means – this beach is DAMN CROWDED! :D To be honest, I felt like in these pictures from China where people just lie next to each other on the beach..ok ok, I am exeggarating but luckily not so many people were swimming in the sea, which I enjoyed a lot as I felt some privacy at least there :-) We experienced huge waves – in fact I have never seen anything like this and we enjoyed jumping in them with the kids a lot!

What else can Krk island offer you? Depends on your nature… I am history lover, so I forced my family to visit the capital city of Krk island called.. haha KRK :D It is awesome to walk there in the narrow streets, to visit the Frankopan Castle, to get to the harbour and just enjoy this touristic mood, drink coffee and feel relaxed...

Another tip for great trip is to visit a bay with healing mud situated in Soline Bay. Here people come and put mud all over their bodies. This mud can heal rheumatism but I didn't get why some people put it on their faces! Weird people, right? :D For better imagination I am here with these two pictures :-)

Walking in the mountains is the best relax for me and we decided to make some trips to enjoy breathtaking views of picturesque landscape, which are unforgettable. Some sceneries will be forever kept in my memory and I hope one day I will come back and walk more in heights because this is more enjoyable to me than to grill my body on the sun down there!

  • Great holiday Luci and very nice writing. You keep getting better as a writer.
  • Awesome! Let me check my bank statements if I am able to go there! I would suggest you please put some details of the budget when traveling Croatia if you don't mind. As a budget traveler like me that's the first thing came to mind. Another thing, could you share these;

    Accommodation?

    Food?

    How to roam the area?

    How're the locals?

What you've got as souvenirs aside from your magnificent photos?

Your photos are so vivid! A high definition that gave us a view as if we are there in your place.

Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • why cant i read this font whereas everybody is responding

  • Thankssss... I like these blogs so much!

Croatia became a fashionable destination here, mostly to be visited by ships on a cruise. Well it's not a priority for me yet although I've seen photos from my parents too and look so nice.
As for those 'healing mud' I should say ashamed that have also tried time ago, my advice; don't try... only after several days and dozens of showers I could get rid of that sickening smell.

Btw, good trip for a Skoda :p
  • Great!!! Lucy!!!

  • Awesome photo-shot....

I also want to visit there.. :|

  • First of all, I'd like to say that it is a pretty interesting description of your travelling experience that made us experience the journey in the first person, so thank you for taking us with you in your formidable trip and illustrating it with photos.

Well, what intrigued me first, is the name of the Island, that look pretty like an abbreviation of some 3 words "KRK" which by far led me to spell it like "Kirk" as a ref to Church. I have googled "KRK arch bridge" and to my surprise, the design is quite mesmerizing, thin and elegant separated by a rock and its immersion into the sea gives it a unique look. Travelling by car is such a fun idea but concerning such a long distance "860 km" is way too far and exhaustive for driving in a single day by car, however it is ideal if the distance if constricted in a "well-paved" highway. Just by looking at the 2 illustrative pictures that you have published of Baška's landscape/shore, I can't believe how incredibly gorgeous this town can be ! the view is amazing from the bay to the mountain and the shore is so crystalline. Haha you made me laugh when you said "I forced my family to visit the capital city..." :D. Well the narrow lanes/alleys are common here in my city, they give you another impression that you are walking though a labyrinth trying to find your way out, and as a castle lover, the picture of the fortress that you have shared there looks like it belong to the medieval era. It's pretty interesting to see the mud healing therapy is prevailing traditionally there, but it is less common here in my country, maybe it is practiced in some regions idk.

Anyway, thank you for this insightful and rich description of your journey, I really enjoyed reading it and i hope you had a good experience within the timeframe you have spent there and that made you switch away from the boring routine. We hope to read your further adventures in the near future. Thank you, Luci for taking us on a trip. :)

  • Lucinka! I thought that i am ready for this blog, but i wasn't. I haven't the words to express my feelings about this... Or no, i have the words, but i lack of them... KRK looks like paradise! I can't believe. I like each of these pictures: Amaizing landscapes with mountains far far away, blue sky, crystal clear water, clean beaches, warm sun and sea waves... At the picture number 3 there are no water... there are just people inside green quartz, especially at right side! At the pictures 7 and 8 there is BLUE MAGIC of the mountains... For me it looks mysterious! Grrr... If i will continue, it will became spam... And it is just about the pictures... Once (many years ago) i have traveled with my family to the BLACK SEA by car too and it was over 1000 km, without good highwais... And without AC inside car... Also i wonder why didn't you posted the main picture - the picture of injured leg:P Thank you very much for sharing! Now i want to travel there too...
