Before you speak!

*Do you take these steps before speaking?

*How many of the people you know consider these steps before speaking?

OR

*Are you the kind of a person who thinks after speaking?!

That awkward moment when you are thinking:

"Oh gosh, why did I even say that?!"

"I wish I could take my words back!"

"I really hurt him/her!"

"There is no way they are gonna hire me!"

,...

Almost all of us have experienced those awkward moments!

BUT

People who speak without thinking can be annoying!

AND

People who speak without thinking can't make good listeners either!

SO

If you want to be an admirable friend,spouse,lecturer,president...or even if you want to rule the world!!! :D just use your words wisely,be laconic and think twice before you utter any words! before you speak!

  • Dear Verve.

I’ve been trying to gather my thoughts and ideas to response to your blogs. Here goes my two worth penny of thoughts.

It’s an admirable idea to follow those “THINK” rules. However, real world does not always follow its own rules. People always try to bend them or break them. What I’ve observed in an office environment that the most outspoken person about telling people that they are open minded and did not mind criticism are the one who will be the hardest to accept any new ideas and positive criticisms. It’s like they were trying to reaffirm themselves that they are open minded rather than telling their colleagues, peers and subordinates that they are open minded.

    Therefore:

T = is it True? Truth hurts. It’s a double-edged sword. In most office environment, it hurts most when it came from sub-ordinates.

H = is it Helpful? Even though it may helpful, some people still needs to stick to their original ideas because it’s the “principal of thing”, rather than anything else.

I = is it Inspiring? Inspiring may not count for much in an office environment

N = is it Necessary? Necessity may needs to be ignored due various reasons such as the situation during the discussion. Is it a heated discussion or just informal discussion? Sometimes taking a step back is unavoidable to maintain harmony of the situation even though you may think what you want to say is necessary.

K = is it Kind?  It can be a double-edged sword just like the truth. There’s a saying that sometimes it takes to be cruel to be kind. So some people may perceive your kindness as cruel.

“THINK” is like any rules therefore needs not to be rigid. It needs to be adapted depending on a situation and audience. I believed understanding the situation and audience is much more important than sticking to “THINK”. Even though your ideas may fit “THINK” sometimes it is much better to mum the words. After all, silence is golden.

  • @Malak I think the reason we don't think while talking to friends is that we know them for a long time and talk to them almost every day!

  • @Arif!it's the matter of chicken and egg!

which process is prior to the other? training mind(through thinking) to have peace of mind or having peace of mind to think properly!! :D

It can happen either way around!but I think peace is obtained it's not a part of this training system or in other words,it's one the aims not one of the tools.

    @Timon shankyou! :P

    @mehrnoosh ^_^

  • Putra!!yeah it's hard to change old habits,but practice makes perfect!and you're still sooo young! :D

  • @Putraaaaa you have got to stop hurting me! :P do something about it girl! :D

  • @My death angel! :D Not all!Not even most of them! But let's hope for the day it happens! ^_^

I Personally always ignore the N step!"Is it necessary?!" I have to work on myself! (:

  • @Arif Saeed, first of all,I gotta thank you for commenting on my blog! ^_^

Second of all,I can agree with your first point,BUT the problem is that peace of mind is           not always there!so we will have to consider these steps!  (:

Third of all,Thinking is the path through which we can learn things!

And last but not least,"no one is born well educated"we have to train our mind. What I'm suggesting here is a way of training our thoughts in order to speak well. (:
