A Quick Introduction

A Quick Introduction

Hello,

My name is Peter. I'm from Wales in the UK. I work as an English teacher for a high school in Sweden. But I have taught in Peru and Spain, and I've helped students from across the globe improve their English skills. I've been teaching for 16 years.

Teaching English as a second or foreign language requires a range of skills, such as proficiency in English, strong communication skills, cultural sensitivity, knowledge of language teaching methods and materials, classroom management skills, and adaptability to different learning styles and levels. I'm fascinated by languages and their workings and understanding a language to better cater to students' needs. I enjoy discovering the connections between languages. Here are a handful of the skills I have picked up along the way: task instruction, mentoring, lesson planning, discipline, class layout, invigilation, marking, leading, business presentation masterclasses, role-playing business scenarios, mock courtrooms, intensive week/weekend immersion, telephone/online classes, TEFL course design, conversational, games and activities, educational blogs, CAE/FCE/IELTS/TOEFL exam readiness, large groups, one to one, business English, legal, insurance, medical, energy, mining, renewables, teaching on limited resources, e-learning, Cambridge LLM, methodology, best practice, teaching/learning concepts, MOOCS, being a quizmaster, level placement, needs analysis, grammar/vocab knowledge, documenting, grading, reporting, and frequently giving therapy. LinkedIn profile.

I set up a YouTube channel, and I want to ask the community what topics they'd like to see in bite-sized videos. That's right! You can help me choose what videos I make. The videos are freely available on my YouTube channel, and I ask that you give a like and subscribe. Oh, and hit the notifications bell to keep updated on new videos. I want to make the best content, so I'd love your feedback on improving future videos. Click here for the first five videos.

As well as teaching, I spend much time on creative ventures like painting, writing, music, and photography. That's my other passion. So, I write the videos, use relevant royalty-free videos and images, and create animations and artwork. And if I can't find the correct music, I make that, too. Click for my art portfolio. And my music. So making teaching videos combining my loves seemed too good an opportunity to miss. Please feel free to get in touch with suggestions or questions.

Thank you.

  • Sounds like you and I are almost flip sides of the same coin - I started teaching English to speakers of other languages in 2008 in Mexico then moved to Asia (South Korea, Hong Kong, and mainland China).  I can pick up some of the British English variances from your posts.

This site was VERY active 10 years ago; today it has a smaller footprint.  Chat used to be fast and furious 24/7.  Today it is hit or miss.  Most people visiting the Chat are in Asian time zones so probably 6 hours or so ahead of yours?  I am now back in the USA Central Time so I am about 12 hours or so behind most chatters time.

    • Thanks, Tim, for your response. I did wonder. Perhaps we can reactivate it and get some traffic moving through it? Thanks again.

  • Welcome to the club, keep writng there on this site. We lack native teachers here.

    • Thank you, Shaheen. I'm happy to be on board.
